BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's insurance capital investments hit 2.45 trillion yuan (358 billion U.S. dollars) in the first seven months of this year, according to the country's insurance regulator.     In July alone, the investments from insurance funds stood at 120.4 billion yuan, China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) said in a report on its website.     Of the total insurance investment value, about 332 billion yuan, or 9.8 percent, went to the stock markets by the end of the second quarter of this year.     During the same period, mutual funds investments suck 228.45 billion yuan, or 6.8 percent from the insurance capital.     A booming equities market and an optimistic attitude towards the country's stock markets had led to an increasing investments, said the CIRC.     Comparatively, in the first seven months, bank deposit of China's insurance capital decreased to 1.03 trillion yuan, 15.23 billion yuan less than in the first six months.     The CIRC's statistics also reflected a slowdown increasing rate in premium income in the first seven months. Premium income was 678.64 billion yuan, representing a small increase of 80 billion yuan than the June figure.

XI'AN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang has said efforts should be made to promote steady and fast industrial growth while improving the quality of economic development.     Zhang made the remarks during a recent inspection tour in northwestern Shaanxi Province, underscoring the importance of adjusting industrial structure, promoting innovation and enhancing enterprise management.     He pointed out that the country's economy has shown a momentum of recovery from the global economic downturn, with more positive signs emerging, but the reviving foundation was not solid enough.     The government should stick to the proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy, and give priority to ensuring economic growth, he said.     More efforts should be exerted to expand domestic demand, carryout the massive economic stimulus plan, and promote stable and fast industrial development.     Zhang also urged cutivating new industries, eliminating backward production capacities, and supporting backbone enterprises as well as small and medium-sized firms.

BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- China attaches great importance to U.S. President Barack Obama's visit in November, a senior Chinese official told visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg in Beijing Tuesday.     State Councilor Dai Bingguo said China would work with the U.S. to ensure the success of this visit.     Steinberg, who arrived in China Monday, said President Obama was looking forward to his visit, and hoped it would promote U.S.-China relations.     Dai said relations between the two countries had developed vigorously with close exchanges and cooperation since the Obama administration took office.     The two sides should work together for the continuous and steady development of bilateral ties, Dai said.     A key mission of Steinberg's China trip is to prepare for Obama's visit. BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's top economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission, unveiled Wednesday a draft regulation on monopoly prices.     The regulation applies to cases of monopoly prices both inside and outside the country, when monopoly prices outside the country impact the domestic market, according to the regulation posted on the commission's Web site.     Other than deals reached among more than two parties for the purpose of monopolizing prices, power abuse of government agencies to eliminate or limit competition is also regarded as violation of the regulation.     Those who violate the regulation would be punished according to stipulations in the country's anti-monopoly law, according to the commission.     Individual retailers or producers may face confiscation of illegal earnings and a fine of up to 10 percent of last year's sales, while industry associations are subject to a fine of no more than 500,000 yuan (73,529.4 U.S. dollars) or could be dismissed as an association.     Government agencies that violate the regulation would be ordered by their superiors to correct their actions, and officials held responsible would be disciplined according to relevant laws.     The commission said the regulation was aimed to prevent monopoly prices and to endorse fair competition so as to safeguard the interests of consumers and the public.     The commission is soliciting public opinion for the regulation until Sept. 6
