(KGTV) - The Poway Unified School District sent parents an email over the weekend on their action plan after a water boil advisory was issued."My boys and I have had the discussion of the importance of safety," Mother and Senior Management Analyst of Poway Public Works Jessica Parks said of her twin high schoolers. "The rule of thumb is don't get the water in your mouth."The City of Poway issued a precautionary boil water advisory Saturday.The city says it believes the recent storm possibly compromised the potable drinking water system.As a precaution, the city is advising resident to boil tap water or use bottled water for drinking or cooking until further notice."I am really pleased with the Poway Unified School District for getting that message out there, speaking to all the parents and letting them know safety for their children is number one," Parks said.Poway Unified School District sent this email to parents: 951

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - Family and friends are mourning the tragic death of a man in Poway this weekend. Thirty-eight-year-old Michael Walker died after a stray bullet hit him in the stomach as he slept early Saturday. It happened at the Sofi Apartment complex on Midland Road. Christina Walker said her husband was sleeping in the spare bedroom so his snoring wouldn't wake her. "All of a sudden, I heard this loud thud, and I didn't know what it was, I ran out of bed, I thought he fell and he was just standing there and I don't think he even knew what was happening, but he was just laying there in bed and got shot," said Walker. She said they didn't realize what had happened. "I'm looking and I'm just seeing this hole in his stomach and then I look over and there's a hole in my wall," said Walker. She rushed him to the hospital, but he died around 3 a.m Saturday ."I think we were still just disbelief, really not knowing, you just don't think, we don't have a gun, it's not like either one of us has ever been shot before, you just don't think, why would you think you have a bullet in you?" said Walker. "Until I heard that they got the person, I couldn't even cry until then, not really, and then I just lost it," said Walker.The Walkers were married less than three years. Christina describes her husband a kind and gentle man. "When I say and stress just how amazing he was, he didn't even know how amazing he was, he was always there when somebody needed him, he was very compassionate, he was an incredible human, he just poured out love for me, and I just hope that I was able to give that to him," said Walker.Her husband worked at Jeromes. President Donald Trump launched the next salvo in his widening war on Chinese trade abuses, this time taking aim at China's unfair seizure of US intellectual property.Trump on Thursday directed the US trade representative to level tariffs on about billion worth of Chinese imports following a seven-month investigation into the intellectual property theft, which has been a longstanding point of contention in US-China trade relations. In addition to the tariffs, the US also plans to impose new investment restrictions, take action against China at the World Trade Organization and the Treasury Department also will propose additional measures."We have a tremendous intellectual property theft problem," Trump said. "It's going to make us a much stronger, much richer nation."The move, which comes on the heels of the administration's steel and aluminum tariffs that also took aim at China, has already been met with threats of retaliation from China and is heightening concerns of a global trade war that could destabilize the global economy -- fears the Trump administration has repeatedly brushed off.Trump on Thursday signed a memorandum announcing the trade actions, invoking Section 301 of the 1974 Trade Act, which formed the basis for the administration's investigation.Before signing the measure, Trump lamented the US' multi-hundred billion dollar trade deficit with China and said the action would be "the first of many."Trump prefaced his trade action by insisting he views China as a "friend" and said he has "tremendous respect" for Chinese President Xi Jinping, as he flicked to China's support in pressuring North Korea to denuclearize."They are helping us a lot in North Korea," Trump said.
