The maritime authority is now making efforts to avoid congestion.The ship locks are supposed to open after water flowing into the reservoir falls to 45,000 cubic meters per second.Water flowing into the reservoir of the dam reached 56,000 cubic meters per second at 2 p.m., the highest since the flood earlier peaked at 70,000 cubic meters per second on July 20, the Yangtze River Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said in a statement.The water flow fell to 53,000 cubic meters per second at 8 p.m.It said the dam took the edge off the fierce flow by holding back about 31,000 cubic meters of flood water per second and discharging the rest.The water level in the dam was 154.3 meters at 8 p.m., an increase of more than 4 meters in 24 hours and well above the 145-meter flood alarm level, the statement said.

BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- A senior official with the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday reaffirmed the Party's and government's unalterable will to clear pornography from the Internet.Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said at a meeting held in Beijing that the government should continue its efforts to crack down on Internet websites that provide pornographic content or links to lewd information.China has established a special working group for coordinating a nationwide campaign to sweep out pornography and other illegal online publications.Officials with government agencies, including the police force and other law enforcement powers in attendance at the meeting, were asked to not only examine websites but also trace the sources of onlinepornography and break the profit chain from producing online pornography and lewd information.Operators of Internet websites, servers, telecom and even advertising agents will be under scrutiny for any pornography or lewd information spread by their services, according to a statement released at the meeting.In other matters discussed at the meeting, the government said it would continue to promote and establish a real name registration system for Internet users and online service operators, and improve its management over Internet search engines as well as information security regulations.

GUANLING, Guizhou, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a rain-triggered landslide in southwest China's Guizhou Province had risen to 13 after rescuers recovered another two bodies Thursday night, rescue headquarters said.Some 2,000 people continued the rescue operation, but the chance of survival for the other 86 villagers was slim after being buried under mud for three days, rescuers said.More bodies are expected to be found as rescuers comb the ruins."It is almost impossible for any of the trapped to be alive now. We are doing our utmost to retrieve the bodies. A once-in-three-century rainstorm was seen in Lingyun County of Guizhou's neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from Sunday to Tuesday, and residents have to go outdoors by boat."It will take more than 10 days for the flood to wane because of the geological structure here," said Zhou Lixin, secretary of Lingyun's Luolou Town Committee of the Communist Party of China.Heavy rainstorms also hit east China's Shandong Province and northwest China's Qinghai Province. Flood water blocked the rail transport in Shandong for two hours, affecting 22 trains, Thursday.Local meteorological bureaus said heavy rains would continue to pound Shandong and some area of Qinghai Province.
