Parts of Hawaii are under a hurricane watch as Category 3 Hurricane Douglas has its sights set on the island state. The hurricane watch is in effect for the Big Island and Maui County.Packing top winds of 115 MPH as of 11 a.m. HT (5 p.m. ET), Douglas is moving toward Hawaii at 18 MPH. The storm was positioned 785 miles from Hilo, or 985 miles from Honolulu.Douglas is relatively small, with hurricane-force winds only extending 25 miles from the center.While the powerful hurricane is in the open ocean, it has been slowly losing strength. The National Hurricane Center projects it will weaken into a tropical storm by Sunday night. But the storm could still be a hurricane when it crosses the island chain, which would make it the first hurricane to directly hit the island in more than two decades.Category 4 Iniki of 1992. was the most recent hurricane to strike Hawaii directly. OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A vintage biplane had an emergency at a South Bay airport Tuesday, sending it skidding off the runway and onto its nose. The incident with the single-engine Stearman plane was reported at Brown Field Municipal Airport, 1424 Continental St. The pilot and one passenger were on board but escaped without injury, San Diego Fire-Rescue Chief Colin Stowell reported on twitter. PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Two people were shot Friday evening during a football game at Palm Beach Central High School in Florida.According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, one of the victims was located on the school property. The second victim was transported to a local hospital by a friend. Officials say both victims are currently being treated at area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown. Gender and ages of the victims have not been confirmed at this time. Initial reports from district personnel indicated the shots seem to have come from outside the stadium, the school district said. Details on this remain under investigation. Dwyer student-athletes boarded the bus and were escorted back to Dwyer High School, according to Kathy Burstein with the School District of Palm Beach County. Unaccompanied students were picked up in the school's bus loop. There were a number of law enforcement officers on site. All students are safe, no students are reported injured, according to a tweet from PBCSD.School district officials present at the football game, including school police, school principal, assistant principals and many others do not report any kind of student altercation prior to shots being fired and no student disruptions leading up to shots being fired were reported either, said Burstein. All district outdoor activities, sporting events, and practices are canceled for the weekend, including third-party rentals of athletic fields, according to the school district. Suspect information and motive are unknown at this time. He said Acosta had spent some time in jail, but that has not been confirmed by authorities.---------------------A 25-year-old Arizona man who was driving a San Diego-area woman's car is accused of fatally stabbing her after the vehicle veered off a freeway and crashed Friday morning.Fernando Acosta of Phoenix got out of the car and accosted a witness with a knife before repeatedly stabbing Martha Thy of Spring Valley, California, along the Loop 101 freeway in Peoria, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety probable-cause statement released Saturday.Thy was stabbed while she was still inside the white Lexus sedan and then while on her knees on the ground outside it after she crawled out and closed a door behind her. Acosta initially was in the driver's seat when he began stabbing Thy, who was seated in the passenger seat, the statement said.He then got out of the driver's side of the vehicle, going around to the passenger's side and resuming stabbing Thy before returning to the driver's side when she attempted to get away, the statement said.Thy died at a hospital.
