SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Amid sky high gas prices and commuting headaches, more San Diego commuters are turning to telecommuting.Like many, Maria Parra's day at work begins with a cup of coffee.  The difference is her coffee is brewed in the kitchen at her City Heights home, feet away from her office.  Parra, who does coding for Sharp Health, started telecommuting in 2010."It only took me about a week to realize how great a situation it was," said Parra.RELATED: How to convince your employer to allow you to telecommuteParra says she saves thousands every year in commuting costs, from gas to wear and tear on her car.   Gone are those rush hour headaches."The time you are saving and the stress you are alleviating is great," said Parra.According to SANDAG, the average San Diegan spends the equivalent of 22 work days every year commuting to work. For full-time telecommuters, that's like getting back 22 vacation days.  Those benefits are now fueling a local telecommuting boom.  According to just released numbers from Carlsbad-based Global Workplace Analytics, about 65,000 San Diegans now work at least half their hours from home.  That's up nearly 190% in the past decade.  Nationally, that increase is 140%.Kate Lister is president of Global Workplace Analytics, which develops flexible workplace strategies for employers.  She says more and more employers are taking a close look at telecommuting."Employers can save big money in terms of productivity, lower turnover, lower absenteeism, and of course, real estate savings.  They don't have to have a seat for every one," said Lister.Among those employers is Sharp Health, boasting more than 670 employees in its telecommuting program, a 16.5% increase from the year before.RELATED: Longer drive could save San Diegans on housingLister says in all, 4.6% of the San Diego workplace telecommutes, which ranks among the top 10 cities in the U.S.  1964

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A YouTube video of a community college police officer who drew his gun on a San Diego man carrying a camera Wednesday is going viral.The video shows the Mesa College police officer getting out of his car and asking Chris, the man with two cameras, what he was filming.Chris, who did not want to provide his last name, refused to put down the GoPro camera. Within seconds, the officer took his weapon out of the holster. The officer did not put his gun back in the holster until a second officer arrived.Chris is the founder of California Citizens Watch, a group that audits government entities. He told 10News reporter Allison Ash he was not trying to provoke the officer into pulling his gun.Watch the confrontation: 10News spoke with former El Cajon police officer Kevin LaChapelle who said he believes Chris was definitely out for a confrontation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Scripps Ranch woman did a double take when she found a mailbox post knocked down, the biggest shock came two days later.Last Thursday afternoon, Elizabeth Spelce came out of her along Cypress Valley Drive and saw it: A wooden post with her mailbox and three others was lying on its side, split apart just above the concrete."Disbelief. Stood there for a good minute and stared," said Spelce.At first she thought the culprit was the wet, windy weather. Two days later, she took a closer look and realized the wood was not rotted and wasn't so sure about her wind theory. She then assumed it might have been some bad driver or teen driver, so she decided to look at her Ring doorbell video."It was a little shocking," said Spelce.In the video, a mail truck is seen pulling alongside the curb, before running right into the post and toppling the mailboxes. The postal carrier backs up the truck, pulls forward, and soon after, reaches down and delivers the mail. The truck then drives off, apparently resuming its route."There was no note. No nothing. Just a big mystery," said Spelce.Spelce says the postal carrier added to the mystery when she talked to a neighbor. "She says, 'by the way, your mailboxes are knocked over ... Gosh, I can't imagine how it happened,'" said Spelce.Remember how she continued to deliver the mail after the mailboxes were knocked over? "She was pretending she delivered the mail and then it happened ... It's very disappointing," said Spelce.Her toppled post has since been replaced by her HOA. Spelce filed a complaint with the Postal Service. She's doesn't want the mail carrier to lose her job, but hopes she'll finally take responsibility.
