SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Every Thursday afternoon in Logan Heights, people line up to get food.Angela Brannon-Baptiste is the woman who started the pantry and the organization that supplies it, called "It's All About the Kids".The non-profit has been serving local families since 2004, handing out more than 1.5 million meals and counting."They tell us that for many of them this is the only food they're receiving because there's just no money to buy food," said Baptiste.When the pandemic hit the group saw the need grow almost overnight."We saw hundreds of additional families come to see us each week and it was a bit frightening," Baptiste explained.Although they'd like to help everyone, they're restricted by their own means.Unlike some other food distribution programs that operate on a first come first serve basis, It's All About the Kids takes a more targeted approach."We decided we needed to narrow that down and really work with the schools to identify who was most in need, so that's who we help now," Baptiste said.At this point, that help is going to about 2,200 families currently on the program.Those who show up get boxes of not just something to eat, but something good to eat.Batiste says it's important they provide as much fresh food as possible, " I think that food is so important and that is our responsibility as successful adults to give back to those that are less fortunate and to help them, so that's just always been my mantra." 1463

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the second time in as many weeks, several train cars derailed near the downtown San Diego area.The BNSF Railway Company says 19 cars derailed at about 9:40 p.m. Friday while traveling at slow speeds. The train cars were carrying automobiles.The backup continued into Saturday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Fans of Hello Kitty can catch the character's popular, pink cafe rolling through the North County and South Bay in the next month for the first time. The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck will be rolling through Carlsbad on Jan. 12 at The Shoppes at Carlsbad from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fans can catch the colorful cat near Regal Cinemas and Luna Grill.On Feb. 2, the truck is also scheduled to bring its delicious treats and trinkets to Chula Vista at the Otay Ranch Town Center.RELATED: San Diego Restaurant Week 2019: Over 180 restaurants taking partFans of the truck can grab a bite of tasty goodies, including a giant Hello Kitty cookie, macaroon set, and lunchbox with confetti popcorn. The school confirmed the Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Phi chapters are under investigation. The school says an incident happened at the frat house on Halloween. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Extended construction work next to Friars Road has drivers wondering when the Mission Valley street will be back to normal.What is normally a four-lane road is now two, as SANDAG completes an million project. Crews are taking out a bridge with one track on it and replacing it with three bridges and four tracks. Two tracks will serve the Coaster and heavy freight trains. The other tracks are for the blue line trolley to La Jolla. “Every day that I have to pass this, it's just an eyesore,” said Katherine Whitley, who has spent two years driving through construction. “It clogs traffic. Everybody knows Friars Road has grown and grown and this isn't the right place for this to be.”RELATED: Gas main break prompts SR-163 closure in Mission ValleyBicyclists are also concerned about construction danger.“The cars going that way are passing me going 55 miles an hour about three feet away from me. So it feels pretty sketchy,” said Greg Zackowski.SANDAG said it is doing everything it can to minimize the impact of construction. The equipment can’t be put in the San Diego River because of the environmental impact.
