SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman who had more than three times the legal blood-alcohol limit when she crashed her SUV head-on into another vehicle while driving her three young daughters through Rancho Bernardo pleaded guilty Friday to felony child abuse and drunk driving charges. Mayra Alejandra Troncoso, 30, had a .29 percent blood-alcohol content when she drove on the wrong side of Camino del Norte on Nov. 12, 2018. Her SUV crashed head-on into an oncoming 2011 Jeep Liberty, causing severe injuries -- including a skull fracture and a brain bleed -- to her 9-month-old daughter, who was riding unrestrained. The defendant's 2-year-old daughter suffered facial injuries and her 8-year-old child broke a bone. The 57-year-old driver of the other car suffered broken bones, authorities said. RELATED: Mother and children injured in wrong way DUI crash in Rancho BernardoTroncoso was arrested the day after the collision at Palomar Medical Center. Prosecutors say that at the time of the crash, she was on probation and driving on a suspended license due to a 2017 North County DUI, in which she also crashed with at least one of her children in the vehicle. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A power outage left nearly 3,200 homes and businesses without electrical service Thursday morning in Del Dios, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos and San Pasqual.The blackout, which initially affected 3,173 utility customers, began shortly before 6:30 a.m., according to San Diego Gas & Electric. By midday, repair crews had restored electrical service to all but 209 of the affected addresses, SDG&E advised. Denny Sanford -- "reflect a heightened sense of urgency to reduce costs amid the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting, unprecedented U.S job losses," according to a university statement.The university, which was founded in 1971, said it has committed to:-- doubling the award amount of existing scholarships, enabling Pell- eligible students to earn a bachelor's degree for close to no cost-- creating "opportunity scholarships," valued at million total, for displaced workers and working adults in need of financial support to restart their college studies-- launching a "fast-track" scholarship which rewards students with a fourth tuition-free course for every three courses completed within a six-month period-- investing in additional student support services designed to remove barriers to degree completion"In a moment of enormous economic hardship, open-access universities have a responsibility to make dramatic changes to not only reduce costs, but to evolve their academic offerings to ensure tight coupling with the demands of the labor market," said David Andrews, president of National University. "Our trustees have challenged us to take immediate next steps to ensure that we substantially reduce tuition while simultaneously improving student experience and outcomes."Michael R. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Monday is the deadline for San Diego County residents to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election.County residents will need to register or re-register to vote if they are not registered in San Diego County, recently moved or changed their name.County residents can check their registration status online at sdvote.com.If they are not registered or need to change their registration, they will be able to complete an online registration form.If their signature is confirmed through records at the Department of Motor Vehicles, it will automatically be sent to the Registrar of Voter's office.If a signature is not confirmed, the form can be printed out, signed and returned to the registrar's office at 5600 Overland Ave. in Kearny Mesa by 8 p.m. on Monday.Registration forms are also available at the offices of the U.S. Postal Service, City Clerk, public libraries and Department of Motor Vehicles.Election materials are also available in Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese and Chinese.Registration forms must be postmarked or delivered to the Registrar of Voters office by 8 p.m. Monday. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Southwest High School student was detained today for displaying what initially appeared to be a firearm over his home computer during a remote-learning class, police reported.A staff member at the Hollister Street campus reported the potential threat shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.Patrol personnel went to the teen's nearby Nestor-area home and called him out, then took him into custody for questioning, Officer Scott Lockwood said.After the youth -- who turned out to be in possession of a BB gun, not a real firearm -- complained of shortness of breath, medics transported him to Rady Children's Hospital for an evaluation.The student, whose identity was withheld, was not expected to face any criminal charges over the incident but will undergo a psychiatric screening intended to determine the motivation for his actions, Lockwood said. 895
