According to a new survey released by the United States Department of Education, 94 percent of teachers said they spent their own money on classroom supplies during the 2014-2015 school year, and the average amount spent was 9.Early childhood education teacher Natalie Soto-Mehle says one of the things she loves most about the three and four-year-olds who make up her class at Trevista Elementary School in Denver is their “energy and joy for life.”So she chooses to do all she can to make their day as engaging as possible.“We might want some sparkly pencils to make it a little bit more interesting,” she said, adding that she’d be buying these types of things with her own money.She acknowledges that a lot of what she buys wouldn’t be considered “essential” by many people, but they’re ways that she can make the experience better for her students.“We have a great library, and I do use it, but I want the books for future use so I’ll buy the books that I want,” she said.Soto-Mehle says she probably buys over ,000 worth of extra supplies for her students each year. About 26,000 Ford vehicles are being recalled with three different safety concerns announced this week.The first one is for certain 2016-2020 Lincoln MKX and Nautilus vehicles with 16-way power seats. The issue is with the wiring of the seat harness and how close they are to the seat cushion pan. If certain wires are damaged from coming into contact with the seat cushion frame, Ford says the airbag system may not perform as intended.People with impacted models can go to a dealer to have them install flocking tape and check the wires.The second recall is for the newest model of F-650 and F-750 trucks. The vehicles are missing certain thermal protection components intended to reduce the interior cabin floor and seat attachment temperatures in hot conditions.The third recall affects less than 100 of the 2020 Ford Escape and Transit vehicles. The airbag may not inflate properly. People are encouraged to take their vehicle to a Ford dealer to have the airbag checked.Ford is not aware of any injuries from any of these safety concerns. 1052

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- The owner of a popular iron horse statue in Alpine believes a lot of planning went into stealing it. Rita Gallant says the iron horse was taken in the middle of the night. The statue stood 14-feet tall and weighed approximately 300 pounds. Gallant says she didn’t notice it was gone until days later, so she checked her surveillance tapes. “We believe they came in over the course of a couple of days. They had to remove some very large rebar wire that was in it that’s right here. So we had four of these that were in it to secure it to the ground,” Gallant said. Gallant says she bought the statue 15 years ago and set it up at her store, Double S Tack and Feed. Since then, the statue had become something of an icon in the neighborhood. 774

After relocating most of the Republican National Convention to Jacksonville, Florida, President Donald Trump announced he has canceled the Jacksonville portion of the GOP convention for next month due to the spread of the coronavirus in Florida."I looked at my team and I said the timing for this event is not right, just not right with what's happened recently, the flare up in Florida,, to have a big convention," Trump said Thursday. "It's not the right time. It's really something that for me I have to protect the American people. After Andy Cohen recovered from the coronavirus, he wanted to help others recover. He attempted to do what others who have had the coronavirus have been asked to do and give plasma.It turns out he was rejected.Cohen is prohibited from giving plasma because he is gay. And you can find that out, and then you can test my blood a couple of times before putting it into a system."The FDA recently slightly relaxed its ban on gay men giving blood or plasma, stipulating that men who have had sex with other men are eligible to donate after three months of abstinence.The FDA says that it is possible that convalescent plasma contains antibodies to the coronavirus and might be effective against the infection.
