CARLSBAD, Calif - — Steve Conboy stands next to a table of wood shavings - surrounding a miniature model of an animal exhibit. He's about to light the tables corners on fire.“Pretty flammable, dry to the bone,” he says. “In a Santa Ana wind it would burn pretty quick.”But along the way, the fire suddenly stops progressing. Conboy says the unburned area has been coated with his product - called the Mighty Fire Breaker.“We have to do more than what we're doing,” conboy says. “We can't just add more firefighters to these type of fires, because there's just too much fuel, and too many houses in wildland territories.”Conboy says the product is environmentally safe, and can be applied to vegetation and wood, he says it can defend a fire's advance for up to a month. His company sells a 50-gallon backpack for ,500, and can also fly a drone to spray hard to reach areas. He also now has the support of Jeff Bowman, who served as San Diego's fire chief during the 2003 Cedar Fire. Bowman’s now speaking out in support of the Mighty Firebreaker.Bowman says he's not being paid and he's not an investor. Instead, he says he believes the firebearker can help firefighters, still dealing with persistent staffing issues.“I just hope somebody sees this and says, 'Let's make the effort to at least try it in a trial burn and see how well it works,'” Bowman said.A spokesman for CalFire says the agency is not using the product, but that it was unclear what the future may hold. 1481
By HALELUYA HADERO Associated PressA group in North Carolina has erected a Black Lives Matter billboard to counter a Confederate flag that stands along a road in the state. An official with a group that supported the project says the sign was unveiled in Pittsboro and funded by residents in the city. A GoFundMe page to raise money for the sign said the billboard was a way to show Confederate flags "do NOT represent" Pittsboro. Sam White had been leasing the billboard on his property to an outdoor advertising company. 531

CALEXICO, Calif. (KGTV) - Vice President Mike Pence toured the US-Mexico border in Southern California Monday, answering questions about the migrant caravan waiting to apply for asylum.Nearly 200 Border Patrol agents joined the Vice President at the Imperial station in Calexico.Pence said the migrant caravan’s attempt to seek asylum was a direct result of weak immigration laws and a “porous border.”He called on Congress to close what he described as immigration loopholes. Pence also asked for an end to the current catch-and-release policy, and a crackdown on sanctuary cities.“All of this cries out for action and thanks to the leadership to President Donald Trump, we are protecting the American people along our southern border and we are building a wall,” said Pence.Pence toured the construction site of the border fence renovation and received an update on the progress.“This new wall is roughly two or three times taller than the wall that was here today. It represents the kind of new border wall measures that we will be implementing,” he said.Critics said the project was identified as a priority in 2009, with the money getting approved last year. 1171
Buyers beware! Sometimes when you spot a good makeup deal, it's too good to be true. The Los Angeles Police Department says it confiscated counterfeit makeup that tested positive for high levels of bacteria and animal waste. The department seized 0,000 worth of bootleg cosmetics on Thursday after raiding 21 locations in Santee Alley, a Los Angeles fashion district, said LAPD Capt. Marc Reina."Those feces will just basically somehow get mixed into the product they're manufacturing in their garage or in their bathroom -- wherever they're manufacturing this stuff," Detective Rick Ishitani told?CNN affiliate KABC.One of the brands being knocked off was Kylie Jenner's Kylie Cosmetics.?Kim Kardashian West, Jenner's sister, took to Twitter to respond to the raid:"Counterfeit Kylie lip kits seized in LAPD raid test positive for feces. SO GROSS! Never buy counterfeit products!"Other prominent makeup brands that were faked included Urban Decay, MAC and NARS.The LAPD was tipped off by the brand-name companies, which received complaints from consumers who said they had rashes and bumps after using their products. The complainants had one thing in common: They bought the product in the Los Angeles fashion district. The packaging of the bogus products looks like the real deal, but the prices are way too low."If you're getting something that's 50% off, 75% off, it tells you that it's bad," Ishitani said.Police arrested the owners at six of the raided locations, and the other operations received cease-and-desist orders, according to CNN Affiliates KABC. 1576
