Smash Mouth says they've received hate mail from fans after taking part in a concert during an event that's since been linked to the spread of more than 100 cases of COVID-19.The band performed an Aug. 9 concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota in front of a closely-grouped crowd. Since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School six years ago, the way law enforcement and citizens handle these events has changed.The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has partnered with a program known as ALERRT, which stands for Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training.The program was created in order to help standardize the response to active shooters and streamline their response in a crisis. "It was important to make sure everybody received the same training, knowing that if that response occurs, it's going to be a multi-agency response,” said Nathaniel McQueen, with Delaware State Police, in an interview with CNN.But all of this occurs once police get to the scene.What about before?"On an average of three minutes, those cops are gonna show up and they are going to take that shooter's attention from you towards them,” says Gordon B. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson called the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store last week "reprehensible" and promised to take action so that it doesn't happen again.A store manager called the police because the two men were sitting in the store without placing an order. They were arrested for trespassing. The customers said they were waiting for another man to arrive. That person arrived at the store as they were being arrested.A Starbucks spokesperson says the manager in the store who called police is no longer working in that store, although she would not comment if she is working at another location.Johnson said there would be more training for staff on the issue of "unconscious bias.""I've been very focused on understanding what guidelines and what training ever let this happen," he said. "What happened was wrong and we will fix it."Johnson had already posted apologies on the company's website. He said the company wanted to "express our deepest apologies to the two men who were arrested with a goal of doing whatever we can to make things right." He said he hoped to meet with the two men in person to make a face-to-face apology.
