YAOUNDE, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has agreed with Cameroon's President Paul Biya during a meeting here on Thursday that the two countries should expand cooperation and further promote bilateral relations.During their meeting, Hui said since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Cameroon 40 years ago, the two countries have treated each other equally, friendly and with mutual trust. Both countries showed firm support regarding each other's core interests.In recent years, China and Cameroon have accelerated cooperation in such realms as trade and commerce, cultural and educational exchanges, bringing real benefits for the two peoples and providing new impetus for the development of bilateral relations, Hui said.The vice premier noted that the China-Cameroon friendly cooperation are embracing new opportunities and the potential will be huge for the two countries in expanding friendly cooperation.He said China is willing to join hands with Cameroon in increasing friendly exchanges, improving political mutual trust, expanding bilateral cooperation and promoting the friendly and cooperative ties to a new height.For his part, President Biya said in the past 40 years, Cameroon and China have carried out a series of cooperation in areas like agriculture and infrastructure construction on the basis of mutual benefit, and such cooperation has made great achievements.As Cameroon is making her new development strategies, the president expressed hope that China can further step up cooperation with and support for Cameroon, and become a strategic partner with Cameroon.The two sides also exchanged views on China-Africa cooperation. Hui said in the past decade, within the framework of the China- Africa Cooperation Forum, China and Africa have enhanced political mutual trust, stepped up support for each other, deepened bilateral cooperation and exchanges as well as further developed their new type of strategic partnership.President Biya noted that as cooperation continuously strengthens with China in the past years, Africa's position in the international arena has been improved, and investments to African countries have also been boosted.Biya said that African countries in general are optimistic about the future of Africa-China cooperation.

BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo said on Sunday that China and the United States should help ease the tensions on the Korean Peninsula and facilitate dialogues.In a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about the recent development on the Korean Peninsula, Dai said that China is deeply concerned with the dynamics in the area.Beijing holds that the immediate priority is to try to calm the current situation and reject any move that might escalate the tensions, he added.At the critical moment, Dai said, China and the United States should actively play a constructive role and take concerted efforts to mitigate the situation as soon as possible and safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula.The starting point of all Chinese efforts is to maintain the peninsula's peace and stability, he said, adding that all relevant parties should make joint efforts to secure an early resumption of negotiations and seek solutions via dialogues.Clinton, for her part, said that Washington and Beijing share common interests in maintaining the Korean Peninsula's stability and that cooperation is of pivotal significance.The United States is willing to work together with China to keep peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula, she added.The two sides also agreed to maintain close contact on the issue.An exchange of artillery fire between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and South Korea last week killed four people, and aroused the concerns of the international community.

CANCUN, Mexico, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- China will not compromise on issues of principle at the ongoing UN climate change conference in Cancun, Mexico, the country's chief negotiator said on Saturday.Su Wei, the chief Chinese negotiator and head of the climate change department of China's National Development and Reform Commission, made the remarks in response to some parties' call for "compromise to make achievements.""All the parties want to reach substantial achievements at the Cancun conference, which can lay a solid foundation for the completion of 'Bali Roadmap' negotiations," Su told Xinhua in an exclusive interview."I think we can cooperate with other parties and even make compromises on some non-principle issues, but we will not compromise on the issues of principle, such as the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol, which is the basis for a package of agreements to be made in Cancun," Su said.The negotiator stressed that the developing countries have reached consensus on the principle issues. "We are keeping solidarity and trying to play a constructive role," he added.Su said some country's opposition to the Kyoto Protocol is no good news to the developing countries, and has exerted negative influence on the conference.Negotiators at the Cancun conference are trying to establish a replacement for the Kyoto Protocol, which obliges rich nations except the United States to cut greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 5.2 percent below 1990 levels by 2008-2012."At the end of the first week of the Cancun conference, there are some progresses in adaptation, finance, technology and mitigation for the developing countries, but it is hard to say if the progresses are final ones," Su observed.As for the rumors about a secret Mexican text, Su said that the president of COP16 has told the delegations from every country including China that Mexico will not put forward a secret text."As I know, Mexico, the host country of COP16, is always pursuing the principles of 'open, transparent and widening participation' for the climate negotiations this year. I believe Mexico will continue to keep the principles to try to get the results of balance at the Cancun Conference," he said.Su noted that the ministers will arrive in Cancun in the second week of the conference. He hopes the ministers can play an active role in promoting the progress of the conference.A 70-strong-member delegation of the Chinese government, headed by Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, is cooperating with other parties to seek a solution to global warming in Cancun.The Cancun talks, from Nov. 29 to Dec. 10, are aimed at finding solutions to global climate change. BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of inflation, rose to a 28-month high of 5.1 percent in November, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Saturday.The growth rate picked up from 4.4 percent in October, according to the NBS. The inflation was driven by a 11.7 percent of surge in food prices, which accounts for one third of the basket of goods used to calculate China's CPI.The year-on-year increase in food prices grew from rises of 10.1 percent in October, 8 percent in September and 7.5 percent in August.From January to November, China's CPI rose 3.2 percent year on year, surpassing the government's target ceiling of 3 percent for the year.The producer price index (PPI) for China's industrial products rose 6.1 percent year on year in November, compared with a 5.0 percent gain in October.
