SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego family is preparing to uproot their lives and move across the country so their 2-year-old son can get a life-altering liver transplant.After Gavin was born, Kendra and Vince Giacalone waited nearly two years for answers on what was wrong with their son.Eventually, through exome sequencing, they learned Gavin had a rare genetic disorder: GM3 Synthase Deficiency. He's missing an enzyme which helps with brain development.The family read online there was no treatment or medicine for their son but they refused to give up.After connecting with specialists they are now hopeful a liver transplant from Kendra's sister will replace the enzyme Gavin is missing.The family will move to Pittsburg for several months while Gavin gets the transplant.All transplant costs are being covered by the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA).The family is trying to raise ,000 for COTA in Gavin's name - 100 percent of donations will go to Gavin.You can also follow Gavin's Rare Journey on Facebook.  1041

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury returned several guilty verdicts Friday against a La Jolla restaurant owner accused of raping eight women who he either drugged or knew were too intoxicated to consent to sex.Jurors found 61-year-old Daniel Dorado guilty of 20 counts in connection with alleged rapes that happened in 2009, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018. Some of the counts Doroado was found guilty of include two counts of rape of an unconscious person; two counts of rape of an intoxicated person; two counts of assault with intent to commit rape, sodomy oral copulation or sexual penetration of an unconscious or intoxicated person; two counts of sexual penetration of an unconscious person with an unknown object; and two counts of sexual penetration of an intoxicated person with an unknown object.Dorado had faced 35 felony counts. The jury acquitted him on three counts, deadlocked on six counts, and have not yet reached verdicts on six remaining counts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken mother is making a plea for tips after a burglar makes off with a computer with with "priceless memories."An upset Sheila Conway shared her story with 10News, weeks after she returned to her home on Norwich Street to a break-in. It appears the burglar opened an unlocked outer door, before somehow opening another door. Taken were Conway's purse and her silver HP laptop. Inside that computer: A lifetime of memories of her only child, her son Tyler Peckham. Tyler, diagnosed with schizophrenia, took his own life in 2014 at the age of 26. Just off the kitchen is a wall memorial dedicated to Tyler, filled with photos showing Tyler growing up into adulthood. Conway says the computer contained hundreds of photos, most of them not backed up. “Cried a lot and just furious. It wasn’t a laptop, but memories that were stolen … everything from baby pictures to adult photos that I’ll never see again,” said Conway. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A missing 16-year-old girl from Mira Mesa has been found after disappearing November 8. Cirena was found late Monday afternoon walking on a street in Salton City. A good Samaritan who saw news reports approached the 16-year-old and asked if she wanted to go to the police station, the family says. As of Tuesday morning, the family told 10News she was back home and healthy. After she went missing, the family says a missing persons report was filed. Days later, family members found Cirena’s phone tossed a few blocks away between two homes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego 17-year-old will get her time to shine this week on ABC's American Idol.Mica Giaconi was born in Argentina but has lived in San Diego since she was a little girl. She says she grew up around music thanks to her musician father who got her into singing and songwriting.Giaconi's love of singing led her to the American Idol judges."You go in there and honestly you just kind of black out. You talk to them and then you start singing and you just black out. It's like you're kind of in the moment and then you realized what you just did and you're like, 'oh my gosh,'" Giaconi said.San Diegans will get to see whether Giaconi punched her ticket to Hollywood on Sunday's episode of American Idol at 8 p.m. on ABC10. 751
