ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is looking for the people responsible for breaking into the Children's Nature Retreat in Alpine and setting several animals loose.The break-in happened between Saturday night and early morning hours of Sunday morning, according to Anges Barrelet, the CEO of the Children's Nature Retreat Foundation.The non-profit houses farm livestock, as well as exotic animals.Barrelet says the intruders didn’t steal anything but cut open two enclosures. There are more than a 130 animals in the roughly 20 acres property, and they set more than a dozen animals loose.Some of them were injured by cages on the way out, getting cuts and scrapes, but the staff was able to put them all back into their enclosures.None of the animals escaped the perimeter fencing."It's completely ridiculous, and it's awful,” Barrelet said. "They put those animals in danger."The enclosures have been temporarily patched up, but Barrelet says they had to close to the public for a few days until the fences can be properly repaired. She says it’s just not safe to have visitors at the park until the barriers can be fixed.The Children's Nature Retreat hopes to reopen next week. 1213

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York is urging travelers from eight additional states to self-quarantine for 14 days as it awaits a decision on the reopening of indoor dining in New York City. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a television interview that he plans to send state police and health and liquor officials to New York City on Tuesday night ahead of his decision expected Wednesday. Last week, Cuomo and counterparts in New Jersey and Connecticut announced a travel advisory requiring people from states with "increased prevalence of COVID-19" to quarantine for two weeks. That advisory applies to states with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents, or a test positivity rate higher than 10%.Tuesday, California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, and Tennessee were added to New York’s travel advisory. After a gunshot wound to the back paralyzed him, Javier Flores turned his anger into art.“For me it’s a meditative process,” he said. “It’s a way I can focus something bigger than myself.”Learning to overcome his own obstacles, Flores is now fighting for more disability rights around the world.“As an artist, I feel it’s art job to provoke and insight dialogue and conversation,” he said.Conversation about the United States' failure to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, an international human rights treaty intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.“I’m disabled and so for me it’s a slap in the face,” Flores said. “I felt like it was an injustice and so it’s one of the things I wanted to carry out through the aesthetics of cubism.”With help from his art students at Access Gallery, Flores created a piece titled “Really?” in an attempt to bring awareness to his fight.“The image is an adaptation of Pablo Picasso’s “Guernica,” Flores said of the artwork. “Instead of the horse, there’s a seeing eye dog.
