FARMINGTON, Utah — A man faces felony charges after he admitted to stabbing a woman and throwing her out of a moving car in Sunday night, killing her. At about 9:50 p.m., emergency dispatch started receiving calls about a body in traffic on northbound I-15. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle driving erratically and nearly hitting the median."A short time later, witnesses stated a person or what appeared to be a body came out of the vehicle on the driver side. The vehicle then continued for a distance continuing to drive erratically before it came to a stop," a probable cause statement said.A Davis County Sheriff's Office deputy made contact with Oscar Cuevas-Landa near State St. and Main St. in Farmington.According to the probable cause statement, Cuevas-Landa had blood on his hand, forearm and pants, and he was wearing no shirt and only one shoe."After being advised of his Miranda [rights] the subject spoke about the incident stating that he had stabbed the victim multiple times, unbuckled her seat belt, reached over and opened the door and then pushed the victim out of the driver side door," the statement said.Investigators believe Cuevas-Landa had hitched a ride with the victim, whom he didn't know."During that journey, [Cuevas-Landa] stated that the victim looked at him funny, so he stabbed the victim several times and then pushed the victim (driver) from a vehicle moving at freeway speeds," the probable cause statement said.Cuevas-Landa also told investigators he had been using marijuana and LSD.A State Bureau of Investigation agent responded to the area where witnesses reported seeing the body and found the woman dead.Police didn't identify the victim, but said she suffered extensive injuries , including two wounds consistent with stabbing injuries.Cuevas-Landa faces a first-degree felony charge of murder and a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury.This story originally reported by David Wells on fox13now.com. 2006

FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- The parents of 10 children rescued from what authorities call years-long abuse are both in jail after their mother was arrested Wednesday.Ina Rogers, 31, was charged with nine counts of felony child abuse. Prosecutors say she caused the children to be in a situation that was likely to produce great bodily injury and death.Her husband, Jonathan Allen, is facing charges that include torture and felony child abuse. (KGTV) -- The Escondido Union School District Thursday confirmed two people at Mission Middle School tested positive for coronavirus.District officials were notified Tuesday of the positive tests, and officials noted the cases were separate and not related."In an abundance of caution and in alignment with guidance from the San Diego County public health department, all students and staff members who were determined to be potential close contacts with either individual were notified immediately, and were advised to begin a 14-day quarantine", said district spokeswoman Michelle Breier.According to the district, the quarantine includes 25 students, five teachers, and three classroom aides.Under Escondido Union’s hybrid model, some students returned for in-person classes in late September.The district has implemented health and safety measures for students and staff, including limiting class sizes, enforcing social distancing, requiring face masks, conducting health screenings, and swift contact tracing following notification of a positive test.Escondido Union School District is a preschool-grade eight elementary district that is entirely separate from the high school district. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Dieguito Union High School District is investigating following several acts of vandalism at San Dieguito Academy over the last few weeks. According to the district, the vandalism included “foul and homophobic language, and disturbing anti-Semitic imagery.” The images were drawn and taped to bathroom walls, the district says. “These images have also been shared by some through text and social media,” the district said in a letter. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — One person is dead and a driver is at large following a hit-and-run collision in Escondido.A vehicle collided with a bicyclist on La Honda Road north of El Norte Parkway at about noon, according to the Escondido Police Department."The rider was wearing a helmet, and we are still investigating the cause as to what happened and how the car and bicyclist crashed," Lt. Scott Walters with the Escondido Police Department said. The cyclist was part of a larger group going southbound on La Honda Drive. Witnesses of the crash saw the 36-year-old victim from Vista fly off his mountain bike and die at the scene. Investigator said the driver of the car never stopped and continued going northbound on La Honda Drive. A short while later, investigators got a break in the case. The mangled car was spotted on the 600-block of Aster Street, just a half-mile away from the crash site. 10News spoke to neighbors watching the commotion, who said they did not recognize the sedan. The victim's identity was not immediately released.Police advised the public to avoid the area for about five hours after the crash. Access to Dixon Lake and Daley Ranch Recreation Areas was closed, but hikers and bikers were able to access Daley Ranch through Cougar Pass in north Escondido, police added. 1312
