A grand jury in Chicago granted an indictment of 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct on actor Jussie Smollet, who is accused of lying about being attacked in late January in Chicago, ABC News reported. The charges come in two sets, according to ABC. One set of charges involve Smollett filing a false police report, when he told officers that two attackers shouted racial and homophobic slurs at him. A second set of charges were for an interview Smollett gave to police later that day. Smollett is out on a 0,000 bond. For the first time in more than two decades, Virginia elected and just swore in a new state legislature controlled by Democrats. “Virginia is officially blue, congratulations,” said Gov. Ralph Northam, D-Virginia, on election night 2019. The new Democrat-controlled state legislature is vowing to pass gun control measures. That’s prompting some local governments to make their own moves by declaring themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuary” cities and counties. So far, more than 100 cities and counties in Virginia have declared themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries.” They’re not the only ones: from Florida to Colorado to Nevada and elsewhere, local municipalities are voting in favor of designating themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries.”But what does it even mean? Georgetown Law professor Mary McCord says what each declaration says varies from place to place. “Some are very much directly stating that county officials or city officials will not enforce state law that implicates or regulates, in any way, shape or form, gun ownership,” McCord said. “Others are simply espousing a support for second amendment rights.” In the end, though, she said the declarations do not hold up to legal scrutiny. “They really have no legal effect,” McCord said. “In Virginia, for example -- the Virginia Constitution and Virginia state law is very clear that it is the general assembly of the entire state -- not of any particular locality. A Cincinnati police officer outed an undercover colleague to the nightclub owner under investigation and concealed ,000 in off-duty income from the IRS, according to federal prosecutors.Quianna Campbell, 39, was arrested Friday. She stands charged with lying to federal agents and submitting false tax returns.According to the criminal complaint filed against Campbell in United States District Court, federal agents first became aware of her during a 2015 investigation into Cincinnati nightclubs’ potential involvement in organized drug trafficking and money-laundering. “During the course of this investigation, information was received that individuals associated with nightclubs had been or were currently being warned of police activities and were in essence being tipped off and possibly protected by members of the Cincinnati Police Department,” an IRS investigator wrote. Investigators later uncovered text messages in which a nightclub owner texted Campbell to ask about a specific person who had visited the club. “She’s an officer….” Campbell wrote back. She also discussed possible reasons police would be investigating the club, writing: “They work on random nights and go into different bars. If they come back again next weekend I would say yes.”In an interview with federal investigators, Campbell denied sending the messages and said she would never out an undercover officer. In 2018, according to the complaint, Campbell would admit she had also concealed a total of ,000 she had earned working off-duty details between 2015-17. A man walked into a California police department Monday and told officers he had killed four people, police say.One of the bodies was in the car the suspect drove to the Mt. Shasta Police Department. His three other victims were in his apartment more than 200 miles away, Roseville Police Department Captain Josh Simon said in a Monday news conference.Roseville officers learned of the man's confession around noon, when they received a call from Mt. Shasta police, who detained the suspect after he came in.Roseville is about 20 miles from Sacramento and about 212 miles from Mt. Shasta.This is an ongoing investigation in coordination with the Mt. Shasta police department, Simon said, adding police don't believe the quadruple homicide was a random act. The suspects and the victim likely knew each other, police said.Police did not identify the suspect or the victims."The sole suspect involved in this incident is in custody and we do not believe there is any ongoing threat to our community," he said.The killings, he said, will likely take a toll on the Roseville community."This can really have an effect on all our first responders and people who may or may not know these victims.
