HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (CNS) - Another prominent filmmaker was accused Wednesday of extensive sexual misconduct. In interviews with the Los Angeles Times, actress Natasha Henstridge and five other women accused director and producer Brett Ratner of a range of sexual harassment and misconduct in private homes, on movie sets or at industry events.Ratner, through his lawyer, denied all the allegations, which included forcing women to perform sex acts and pleasuring himself in front of them."I have represented Mr. Ratner for two decades, and no woman has ever made a claim against him for sexual misconduct or sexual harassment," Singer said in a 10-page letter to The Times. "Furthermore, no woman has ever requested or received any financial settlement from my client."Ratner has become one of Hollywood's most powerful players, directing, producing or financing dozens of today's biggest box-office hits, including "Rush Hour," "X-Men: The Last Stand," "The Revenant" and "Horrible Bosses," according to The Times. Now 48, Ratner has long flaunted his playboy persona, bragging publicly about his sexual prowess, according to The Times. He has been romantically linked to Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Mariah Carey. The women quoted by The Times today are actresses Natasha Henstridge, Olivia Munn, Jaime Ray Newman,  Katharine Towne, aspiring singer Eri Sasaki and background actress Jorina King.As hundreds of women have come forward in recent weeks with allegations of sexual misconduct at the hands of producer Harvey Weinstein, director James Toback and other powerful men, Henstridge decided she would no longer remain silent, The Times reported. As is often the case, none of the allegations, which date back to the early 1990s, were reported to  police. The Beverly Hills Police Department, meanwhile, is investigating "multiple complaints" involving Weinstein and James Toback, two longtime film industry figures who have each been the subject of numerous accusations of sexual harassment and sexual assault."The Beverly Hills Police Department has recently received multiple complaints involving Harvey Weinstein. These cases are under investigation and no further information will be released at this time," police said in a statement. The department sent an identical release involving Toback, a writer and director. Weinstein, a producer long considered one of Hollywood's most powerful people, was fired from The Weinstein Company after dozens of women accused him of sexual harassment or assault. He was also expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Producers' Guild. and the Directors' Guild is expected to follow suit, having initiated the process.Weinstein has apologized for his behavior but vehemently denied ever engaging in non-consensual sexual activity. The Los Angeles Police Department has announced it is investigating a sexual assault allegation against Weinstein. That allegation was made by an Italian model-actress who claims Weinstein raped her in 2013 at a hotel while she was in town for an Italian film festival.Police in New York and London have said they are investigating allegations of sexual assault involving Weinstein as well.As for Toback, 38 women recently emerged to report years of perverted and creepy behavior by the director whose credits include "The Pick-up Artist" and "Black & White." The Los Angeles Times reported that it spoke to the women about the allegations, with 31 speaking on the record. 3501

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. HERRIMAN, Utah – If you were to take a step into the workshop of Heidi Swapp, a mix of sawdust and noise would greet you almost instantly.“This is where all the magic happens,” said Swapp. Her oldest son works alongside her, providing some support and even some comic relief when needed.“Ok, go back to work,” she said to her son with a smile. The workshop is where Swapp comes to create.“I do love it. I love the possibilities,” she said.Swapp has always been crafty, whether in the workshop or at her home.“Photos and stories are super important to me and it brings me joy,” she said. However, for a few years, she couldn’t bring herself to create anything.“When Cory passed away, I just couldn’t scrapbook anymore,” she said.Cory is her second oldest son.“Cory called me and told me that he loved me and told me goodbye,” she said with tears in her eyes.Just months after his 16th birthday, Cory died by suicide.“I was completely shocked,” Swapp said. “I didn’t even know that was tumbling around in his mind.”She said Cory was seeing a therapist at the time of his death.“We had met for about an hour and it was a very tender and wonderful conversation,” she said.About 45 minutes later, Cory was gone.“The hard thing about suicide is you’re left with questions and it’s not one question, it’s 10,000 questions,” Swapp said. “It’s questions that you will never have answers for.”Through a podcast called “Light the Fight,” Swapp started talking about the things most families struggle to talk about – mental illness.Alongside her for each weekly episode is Cory’s therapist.“Both of us had been in that room and both of us had been trying to help him,” she said. Now, they help others.“I believe 100% that if we can shine light and if we can talk about stuff, then we’re in the fight and we can go to work,” she said.It was what motivated Swapp to go back to work and to create once again. In a way, Cory is there too. Swapp still wears his favorite Vans shoes when she works.“Telling his story, talking and laughing and remembering him is a huge part of healing,” she said. “If everything is just kept in the dark then we have nothing to work with.” 2157

Gap has apologized for a map of China on one of its T-shirts that upset internet users in the country.A user on Chinese social network Weibo posted photos of a T-shirt they said was on sale at a Gap store in Canada, complaining that its design left out Taiwan and islands claimed by Beijing in the South China Sea.The US clothing brand is the latest international company to find itself in hot water over Chinese territorial issues. The Chinese government in Beijing considers self-governed Taiwan to be an integral part of its territory and comes down hard on any suggestions to the contrary. China also claims sovereignty over a large swathe of territory in the South China Sea, including areas claimed by other countries like Vietnam and the Philippines.Gap responded to the criticism on Weibo by announcing it had pulled the T-shirts from the Chinese market and destroyed them."Gap Inc. respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We've learned that a Gap brand T-shirt sold in some overseas markets failed to reflect the correct map of China in the design," the company said in a statement posted late Monday on Weibo."We sincerely apologize for this unintentional error," it added. "We're currently conducting an internal inspection."The company didn't say whether the product would be withdrawn from sale in other markets.A series of other big Western brands have apologized over missteps on Chinese territorial issues.Chinese authorities in January blocked Marriott's websites and apps for a week after the company listed Tibet, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan as separate countries in emails and apps. Marriott issued an apology, saying it respects and supports China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.US airline Delta and European clothing retailer Zara also came under fire over similar issues on their websites in China. Both companies subsequently apologized.Beijing has also been pressuring international companies to change their websites outside China to fit its views, prompting a clash with the US government.Earlier this month, the White House described as "Orwellian nonsense" Chinese demands that more than 30 international airlines, including some US carriers, alter their websites to remove any information that could suggest that Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau are not part of China.  2330
