SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Firefighters were able to knock down a two acre brush fire in San Ysidro Sunday morning. According to San Diego Fire Rescue, the fire sparked just before 7:20 a.m. in a rural canyon east of San Ysidro. The department says, due to the difficult terrain, crews had to be flown in to fight the blaze. (AP) — The Catholic Diocese of San Jose has purchased a five-bedroom, .3 million home in Silicon Valley for its retiring bishop despite the 640,000-member diocese's mission of charity and serving the poor.Bishop Patrick J. McGrath, 73, acknowledged in an interview with the Mercury News of San Jose that the price tag is "a lot of money," saying "I could understand" it might not sit well with some parishioners.The nearly 3,300-square-foot (306 square-meter) home's listing boasts of a "grand-sized chef's kitchen," ''soaring ceilings" and "luxurious master ensuite" with a "spa-like marble bathroom" in a "Tuscan estate."It was purchased with funds set aside for paying the costs of a bishop's housing and upkeep after retirement, said diocese communications director Liz Sullivan. She said the diocese was "following the policy set forth by the United States Council of Catholic Bishops" in purchasing the home.McGrath said the diocese also got the proceeds from selling a condominium where his predecessor, retired Bishop Pierre DuMaine, lived before moving into assisted living."The fund is a fund that can be used for nothing else," McGrath said. "When I'm not around anymore, the house can be sold. It's a good investment in that sense. SAN JOSE, Calif. – A woman was caught on video intentionally coughing on a baby at a California yogurt shop after getting into an argument with the child’s mother.The San Jose Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the woman, who they call an “assault suspect.”Police say the adult female suspect was standing in line inside a Yogurtland in front of the mother and her 1-year-old child, who was in a stroller.A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect was upset the mother was not maintaining proper social distancing, so she removed her face mask, got close to the baby’s face, and coughed two to three times, according to police.Video then shows the suspect leaving the business. SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — It's not paper or plastic that's taking over a Scottsdale, Arizona recycling center — it's trash. Every day at Republic Services workers line a conveyer belt scouring for items that don't belong. But the belts are moving slower than they used to. That's because so much trash has been moving through, workers need more time to pick it out. "A cushion like this, not recyclable," Richard Coupland with Republic Services said. "Baby seats, not recyclable." But it's not just time-consuming. Coupland said when you put things that don't belong into a recycle bin, it can contaminate the other items that do belong. In return, that produces more trash. "Focus on your fundamental material, but most importantly that it's empty, clean and dry," he said. Fundamental material includes paper, plastic, aluminum and cardboard. However, if you're recycling a ketchup bottle, it must be completely empty and rinsed out. All the trash coming through the center is also costing more money. Coupland said China was at one time one of the largest buyers of recyclable material. However, the center has stopped shipping items there. "They've lowered their acceptable criteria from 3 percent to .5 percent," Coupland said. "That's a level that few folks are able to achieve right now without making significant changes to their operation." That's forcing the company to sell all it's paper, plastic, and aluminum to different markets, at a cost. "Those markets are not able to pay the same value for the material," Coupland said.In return, that can cost you more when it comes to pick up fees. However, you can help by being conscious about what you put in your bin. "Many don't realize that the bottom of a pizza box which is contaminated with grease of a pizza, that's trash," Coupland said. "No one is interested in buying that. So the proper thing to do is rip the box, give me the top and throw away the bottom."  2052

Seattle police have moved in to break up the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) after Mayor Jenny Durkan issued an executive order early Wednesday morning declaring the gathering illegal.According to the Seattle Times and KOMO-TV, about a dozen protesters were arrested Wednesday morning as police ordered those present to leave the area.Demonstrators have occupied the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle for about three weeks. The protesters moved in earlier this month after police abandoned the department's East Precinct — which is located in the neighborhood — over fears of riots.While the occupation was largely peaceful for several weeks, the area has seen four shootings since June 20, some of them deadly.The protests began in the wake of the death of George Floyd, and were part of a nationwide protest movement against systemic racism and police brutality.Last month, CHOP leadership released a list of demands calling for the abolishment of the Seattle Police Department, a retrial for all people of color serving prison sentences for violent crime and the de-gentrification of the city, among other demands. 1138
