SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three people have been arrested after a man was found dead in a drainage ditch near Fox Canyon in February. According to San Diego Police, Steven Chavez, 32, Peter Burgos, 45, and Jesus Faraj, 41, were all arrested from September 11 through the 17 on charges related to the murder. Police say Faraj was already in prison for an unrelated charges. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The twists and turns of the coronavirus pandemic have been especially hard on Little Italy's Civico 1845 restaurant."We're counting pennies every day," owner Dario Gallo says. Gallo couldn't get a stimulus Paycheck Protection Program loan and now, it's illegal for him to have guests eat indoors."There's been the moment, earlier in the previous month where things were changing day after day with new regulations," Gallo says. Like all restaurants in the county, Gallo had to figure out how to survive.To do that, he's making full use of the space outside his India Street restaurant, both in the piazza to the side of the building and on the street in what's called a Parklet. He's back up to 85% capacity."We are of course fighting, day after day after day," Gallo said. The city says it's doing all it can to make it easy for restaurants and businesses to move outside, even waving fees for a lot of temporary parklet permits and turning them fast. Still, there are more applications coming. The city said Thursday nearly 250 businesses have the green light to move outside, with another 33 permits in the queue.Marco Polo Cortes, a hospitality consultant who helps businesses apply, including Civico 1845, says he's never been busier."This is their lifeblood. They are either out on the parklet, on the sidewalk, or not open for business," Cortes says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Rapid Response Network (SDRRN) gave 10News an exclusive look inside the shelter where they help asylum seekers daily. The location of the shelter is kept private to protect the migrants. Rapid Response usually houses people for 24 to 48 hours. When migrants first arrive, they see a doctor the go to an intake room where volunteers help make travel arrangements with family members already inside the U.S. The migrants are fed three times a day and are each given a full set of clothing. Sometimes, the network even funds their travel plans. Volunteers at the shelter tell 10News they are running out of resources to continue helping. They want city, county and state officials to step in and help. In the meantime, they are relying on donations from the community. They've set up a GoFund Me campaign and a travel fund for the migrants who need help with transportation. The city tells 10News they are exploring all options to help.Tuesday, the asylum claims of six Hondurans were accepted for processing, ending a 17-hour standoff, according to the Associated Press. The asylum seekers arrived at the crossing Monday afternoon but after several hours in the U.S., inspectors agreed to process claims of eight unaccompanied children and a mother with her five children. Six more weren’t initially allowed into the country and sat on blanket through the night before authorities processed their claims. The impasse highlighted a U.S. practice to limit entry for asylum seekers at official crossings when they are at full capacity, which it calls "metering" or "queue management." 1622

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Three San Diego County high school football teams qualified for the state finals but may not have enough funding to attend the tournament, school officials said Monday.Lincoln High School boys just finished what coach David Dunn is calling a “Cinderella season”. The team has never before qualified for the event.“Just to have the experience and the opportunity to do it, and let alone be the first team to do it, it means a lot,” said T'ray Kirkland, senior player.The Lincoln High Hornets have had a slim roster, injuries, even a forfeited game. They beat Mira Mesa for the CIF championship.“There have been games where we really had to step up. You just see how much heart each and every person on this team has,” said Kirkland.“Their willingness to compete is different than a lot of the other teams that I've had before," Coach Dunn said.The boys have also been competitive academically. The team averages a 3.1 grade point average with as many as eight players holding a 4.0. Lincoln High is scheduled to play Menlo Atherton this weekend in the San Francisco suburb of Redwood City. The game won’t happen if the team doesn’t get more money. Although the state pays for some of the expenses, the team needs the community to step up.“We need this opportunity to really display that the Southeast produces athletes, great young men, and character,” said Kirkland.San Diego High and Escondido’s Orange Glen High also qualified for the state finals and need financial help.
