CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) — You may not find a cowardly lion, brainless scarecrow, or heartless Tin Man on Coronado, but the city's connection to one of history's most famed stories runs deep."Wizard of Oz" author L. Frank Baum has several connections to the scenic beach city. Between 1904 to 1910, Baum and his family vacationed in the city often, according to San Diego's tourism website.Baum was reportedly such a fan of Coronado's beauty, he wrote a portion of the "Oz" series there. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - On Wednesday, Rear Adm. Collin Green sent notice to Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher that his status as a SEAL is under review, according to his lawyer.The process, commonly called a Trident Review, could strip Gallagher of his trident pin and remove him from the SEAL teams, though his rank and paygrade in the Navy would not be changed.“It’s ordinarily a procedure used for a substandard performer or somebody who’s committing safety violations,” said Timothy Parlatore, a civilian attorney for Gallagher.RELATED: Trump restores rank of San Diego Navy SEAL following war crimes caseParlatore said Gallagher is planning on retiring as soon as possible, so the move to strip his trident pin would not have any dramatic effect on his current role.“It has no legitimate value for someone about to retire,” said Parlatore. “It is purely a retaliation. CONIFER, Colo. – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about leaving their cars unlocked after several incidents, including one caught on video, in which bears have gotten into vehicles.The sheriff’s office posted video on Facebook that showed deputies using a rope to open a car door in Conifer on Monday. A black bear then exits the car and runs off.The deputy recording the scene then shows the interior of the car, which was torn to shreds. The bear also left behind a half-eaten banana.The sheriff’s office said no humans or bears were hurt.  583

CLEVELAND — Chadwick Boseman’s death is putting the spotlight on colorectal cancer.Doctors are concerned about the alarming increase in patients between the ages of 25 and 45 years old who are being diagnosed with colorectal cancer.“I’m seeing younger and younger patients. 22-year-olds, 25-year-olds, 26-year-olds, and it’s left all of us a little bit puzzled as to why this is happening,” said Dr. Alok Khorana with the Cleveland Clinic.Carole Motycka went to the doctor for shoulder pain four years ago.“He ordered some tests and it turned out I had a lot more going on than I anticipated,” Motycka said.Motycka was 42 years old when she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She is now on a mission to bring attention, awareness and education to the disease and the increase in younger patients.“Two decades ago, this was widely recognized as a disease in older people,” said Khorana. He said there has been a substantial increase. “Maybe 100% increase, but rates are still very low,” he explained.Colon cancer is much more common among older people. Black men also have higher rates of the disease.There has been a decrease in colon cancer rates among people 50 years old and above, while an increase in the 25-45 age group. Most young patients do not have a family history of the disease.Experts believe catching colon cancer early is the key to survival. But young people are typically diagnosed much later, and Khorana said the cancer seems to be more aggressive.Doctors don’t yet know what is causing the spike in young people.“There are a lot of clues. There’s been an obesity epidemic in the younger population that came 10 to 20 years before the rise in colon cancer,” said Khorana. “A second clue offered is antibiotic use in young people,” he added.Boseman, who played superhero Black Panther on screen, fought a battle off-screen against colon cancer privately for four years.“It’s sad to know it had to happen to have awareness take place but also it’s good to know we can have the conversation on a bigger platform and stage,” said Motycka.Click here for a look at symptoms of colon cancer.
