DENVER – Time Magazine has named its first-ever "Kid of the Year" — 15-year-old Gitanjali Rao from Colorado.Gitanjali, who lives in the Denver suburb of Lone Tree, was chosen from a pool of more than 5,000 nominees for her "exceptional leadership" in finding solutions to societal problems such as cyberbullying and water contamination, according to a brief description of the selection process from Time."It was exciting. She called the experience "surreal" and not something she would have ever imagined.And while she may be the first-ever Kid of the Year, it isn't the first accomplishment for the bright teenager.In 2018, when Gitanjali was 12 years old, she spoke with Scripps station KMGH in Denver after she was named America's Top Young Scientist for creating Thetys, a device that detects lead in water — an invention inspired by the water crisis in Flint, Mich."I think there's so much we can do with technology; we just have to apply it in the right way, and that's really what I wanted to start doing," Gitanjali said Thursday when asked about her motivation for helping others. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - Nine doctors and medical professionals are facing federal drug charges in connection to DEA illegal opioid prescription investigation. Agents raided medical officers across Southern California for "Operation Hypocritical Oath," which targeted doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and clinic operators in California and Nevada. "A stern message to corrupt doctors who seek to profit from spreading addiction," said U.S Attorney Nick Hanna. Among those arrested, Monica Ann Berlin of Del Mar. The Department of Justice says the 41-year-old stole a doctor’s signature stamp and prescription pads to write fraudulent prescriptions.Berlin forged at least 44 prescriptions for controlled substances from April 2015 to 2017, according to the DOJ. According to the criminal filed against her, Berlin sent text messages to her buyer using coded language by describing the drugs as “candies" and “Tic Tacs.”Investigators say the bogus scrips were filed at pharmacies in Rancho Santa Fe and Beverly Hills. The DOJ says 15 people died because of drugs related to some of the practitioners in this investigation and this epidemic remains their top issue. DETROIT, Mich. - The number of passengers flying daily in the United State is growing but we’re only seeing a 40% total traffic when compared to a year ago.So airlines are still forced to operate on reduced schedules, some telling us it has created a flight booking headache.With travel down by about 70%, it's been a rough go for the airline industry, but passengers tell me there have been some upsides."Rescheduling the flight was a piece of cake," said one traveler."There's like no one in the middle seat, that’s super nice," said another traveler.Middle seats blocked, no change fees, and more lenient cancellations policies have all made flying much more appealing but traveling during the pandemic also mean dealing with a lot of changes."Saying it was frustrating is an understatement, it was utter chaos," said Kellie McDaniel.McDaniel of Monroe was thrilled about her November trip to the US Virgin Islands, that is until a change by the airline made it so that."Our connecting flights would not match up," said McDaniel.Now, the company did offer her a refund because they could not fix the issue."But then we were left with no airline," said McDaniel. (CNS) -- Racing is set to resume at Del Mar Friday after three racing dates were canceled because 15 jockeys tested positive for the coronavirus.The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club responded to the positive tests that wiped out racing from July 17-19 by instituting new travel restrictions to include only permitting jockeys based in California to ride and prohibiting all jockeys who leave the track to ride elsewhere from returning to Del Mar for the remainder of the summer racing season.Del Mar also re-configured and expanded its jockeys' quarters, including moving some of the functions that normally take place in the jockeys' room to an adjacent area.Racing will be held Monday to make up for one of the canceled days. DENVER – Police are investigating a homicide scene after three adults were found dead Thursday afternoon near a major Denver intersection.Police initially said they were investigating a death at the scene, but later tweeted that they were investigating a homicide involving three adults. A Denver police spokesperson confirmed all three people were dead.A news crew at the scene said police appeared to be searching the bushes near the RTD light rail and bus station.
