A Charlotte County, Florida mom was arrested Wednesday morning after she accidentally ran into her son in the drop-off area of the Port Charlotte High School parking lot.According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, 49-year-old Nadine Williams has a suspended license and gave false identification at the scene.  Williams' son was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Deputies said they found Williams had a suspension for unpaid traffic fines and a failure to maintain insurance. They also said they found a citation for driving without a license just days before the incident Wednesday morning. When deputies asked her about the suspension, they said she told them she knew she was suspended, but she had to drive because it wasn't "like I'm murdering or raping."  815

A chalk art controversy at Cleveland State University is getting national attention online.A group of students created a memorial for the victims of 9/11 on the sidewalks outside the CSU student center. On the morning of the somber anniversary, the university's maintenance crew removed the murals with a power washer.Now CSU and the head of its maintenance department are getting blasted on social media. The comments and reaction have not been good.But what is being lost in the online outrage is that this form of expression is actually not allowed on campus.CSU sophomore Tiffany Roberts pointed out the streaks of color that remain on the sidewalk outside the CSU Student Center Wednesday."So right here, we had two twin towers and it said 'pause,'" said Roberts.She was standing near her project on the morning of Sept. 11 when a crew showed up with a power washer."It was really disheartening to see all of our hard work kind of wash away like that," said Roberts.Roberts, along with nearly a dozen of her classmates, are members of a conservative campus group."Our whole intention was to just honor those people," said Donato Nunez.On Sunday night, they used chalk to pay their respects to the victims of 9/11."I looked through the handbook to make sure it was OK for me to chalk on campus," said Roberts.Roberts told WEWS she didn't see anything about chalk."The only thing I found was that you are not allowed to attach anything to the sidewalks or the pavements," said Roberts.Monday morning, the CSU Director of Facilities Management, who also happens to be Muslim, sent a crew out to wash the artwork away.A handful of conservative websites, along with social media, quickly erupted with outrage, alleging that it may have been politically motivated. "Absolutely disgusted by this!" wrote one Facebook user. "People can desecrate the American flag, people can refuse to stand for the national anthem, they organize Rally's to keep others from using the freedom of speech, and all that's ok... Students work hard in drawing an American flag on Sept 11th, it gets washed away, on the order of an Islamic man, and that's ok! Exactly what's wrong with this country!"Now some members of the conservative campus group acknowledge the rumors got out of hand by social media users who were unfamiliar with the facts.  "It just looks so bad, and we didn't want that," said Nunez.Cleveland State said this has nothing to do with religion and it does not allow students to use chalk to express themselves on campus. A burly kangaroo whose buff physique shot him to internet fame has died at the age of 12."We have lost our beautiful boy, Roger," Chris Barnes, owner of the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Australia, announced on Saturday on Facebook.Roger, who was 6 foot 7 inches and weighed nearly 200 pounds in his prime, was rescued by Barnes as a joey after his mother was killed on a highway.In a video tribute to the marsupial, Barnes said he was inspired to set up the 188-acre sanctuary in Alice Springs to house the famous kangaroo and his growing harem of wives."I built it so they had a place to live," he said. Roger was the sanctuary's alpha male for many years, Barnes added. "He grew up to be a kangaroo that people from all over the world have grown to love as much as we love him too."Roger's death led to an outpouring of grief on social media. Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia called him "such a proud strong boy" in an Instagram post, while the Australian government's tourism agency described him as a "true icon."The beefcake kangaroo became an internet sensation in 2015, when a picture of him crushing a metal bucket with his bare paws went viral on social media."As a man kangaroo if you want to have a wife you are going to have to fight for her," Barnes told CNN at the time. "Now you try and get your opponent in a big bear hug basically and wrestle them, and Roger did that to the bucket."Despite his bulging biceps, the kangaroo could not defeat the aging process, suffering from a loss of vision and arthritis in later life.But Barnes assured fans in a 2016 video that Roger was loving retirement. A candidate for mayor in a Texas town outside Dallas is facing voter fraud charges after allegedly sending in 84 applications for ballots.Zul Mohamed is a mayoral candidate in Carrolton. He now faces 25 counts of knowingly possessing a ballot with intent to defraud and 84 counts of providing false information on a voting application, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.Paxton’s office alleges Mohamed “obtained a virtual mailbox using a false identity, forged at least 84 voter registration applications for unwitting Denton residents and had them sent to a fraudulent location.”When he was arrested, Mohamed was reportedly in the process of stuffing envelopes with additional mail ballot applications for a nearby county.County officials began their investigation after Denton County officials noticed several absentee ballots were being mailed to the same post office box, according to the Texas Tribune.It is not clear from the investigation if any ballots were actually cast or mailed in.If Mohamed is found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in prison. 1081
