Tyson Foods may lay off more than 400 workers in the South Bay in an effort to become more efficient and save money.It would be the biggest layoff in San Diego County in more than a year.The company filed a layoff notice with the state this month saying it had to let 401 workers go from its Circle Foods label plant in Otay Mesa. "Tyson Foods, Inc. regrets that its team members at the San Diego, California facility must be permanently displaced yet hopes to accomplish this plant closing with the least possible disruption of lives of the tema members, their families, and the community," the notice says.Many of the workers make Mexican frozen food on the factory's assemblyline.A team from the San Diego Workforce Partnership has already been to the factory twice to help the workers find new opportunities. Also, Windsor Foods is buying Tyson's plant to expand its Mexican frozen food offerings. While it does plan to eliminate three tortilla lines, company VIce President Paul Taylor said the Windsor hopes to keep as many of the workers as possible.Andy Hall, chief operating officer of the San Diego Workforce Partnership, said he doesn't see the layoffs as a larger trend. After all, the unemployment rate is now near a 17-year-low of 3.3 percent. The layoffs are expected to occur by the end of April. Tyson in a statement said it is working on a transition plan with Windsor Foods, but will retain some operations here. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies are asking the public for help finding a missing 75-year-old who disappeared in Vista.SDSO says Janet Osborn was last seen at 1800 Devon Place on Sunday at about 12 p.m. She's described as a white female, 5'3", and was last seen wearing a long green dress, black knee-high socks, and was carrying a water bottle.Anyone who may have information on Osborn's whereabouts is asked to call SDSO at 858-565-5200. 595

UPDATE -- A beloved community icon was returned overnight Monday after surveillance video caught a thief making off with the Rancho Bernardo treasure. It's still unclear who took the baker statue, but the figure was returned to a business next door overnight. The owners say they're happy and grateful the icon is back. Bakery owner Gerry Lawrie says has stood outside the front door for more than 20 years. Before that, it stood outside a previous location in Mira Mesa for several years. "He was particularly liked by the children. They like to run up and touch him, and take photos next to him," said Lawrie.The store mascot turned neighborhood icon vanished Tuesday night. In the surveillance video, a vehicle is seen pulling up just before 10:30 p.m. A man gets out and walks toward statue and pushes it to check the weight. He then walks back toward the truck, before turning around and eventually picking up the statue. Finally, he tosses it into the truck and drives off."Disappointed for sure," said Lawrie.Lawrie and his wife Lynn are both at a loss."Feels sad and empty because he was such a part of us. Customers are really upset," said Lynn Lawrie."The Baker Man" was first purchased at an antique warehouse in Corona. They believe it's fiberglass and weighed less than 100 pounds. The owners are making a direct appeal to the thief."He's a special friend and we would like him returned," he said. The couple filed a police report, but they're hoping the thief will simply put it back, no questions asked.The owners are also offering a unique reward for information leading to the return of the statue.
