SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — From birthdays to barbecues, there have been five community outbreaks linked to private parties at homes.A spokesperson for the County of San Diego said the outbreaks happened just after Easter through mid-June, and 33 people tested positive for COVID-19.Three of the residential outbreaks are still active, while two have expired. The outbreaks at private residences have caused health officials to worry, especially with the 4th of July quickly approaching."People who wanted to get together with friends after a period of not being able to do so are having gatherings of maybe 10 to 25 people," said Dr. Eric Mcdonald, director of the county’s epidemiology and immunization department. She still deals with lingering effects now.“I’ll go walk my dog, and I’m still having difficulty breathing when I get home,” she said.For someone who experienced how troubling the virus can be, the fact that many people are now mixing with friends and extended family, going against the county’s public health order, does not sit well.RELATED: Governor asks California county to reimpose stay-at-home“It’s really disheartening to see that people are still not getting it,” she said. “Even if you feel fine, you could be a carrier.”The county officials have said it is up to law enforcement agencies to decide how to enforce the rules when it comes to gatherings, social distancing, and facial coverings.However, many officers feel like their hands are tied.A spokesperson from the San Diego Police Department said, “We do not and will not go into private homes to enforce any of the county health orders.” Private residences cannot be entered without legal authority. It is imperative the public does their part and takes responsibility to limit the spread of the virus.”ABC 10News heard from several law enforcement agencies across the county, including the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, Chula Vista, Coronado, La Mesa, and El Cajon Police Departments.Many said they have been focusing on education first or giving warnings when they see violations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Homeowners in Mission Hills say someone is back to shining a laser pointer into their homes after a several week hiatusNew video from over the weekend a shows someone pointing a laser into a family’s living room.The laser pointer appears to be coming from the same place as it was back in January when 10News first did the story.Daniel Wang lives in Mission Hills and says his living room turned a blueish green on Friday. “The kids were here so luckily they didn’t look directly at the beam,” said Wang, “that’s the only thing to worry about.”Neighbors have filed a police report, but not much progress has been made because the source of the laser appears to be from a common space in an apartment complex.Doctors say lasers can cause blindness and in some cases induce seizures for those who have epilepsy.Shining a laser into another person’s eyes in California is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 30 days in jail. 955

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For six years a Camp Pendleton Recon Marine allowed filmmakers full access into his life, which at one point hit rock bottom. The GI Film Festival documentary, Homemade, aims to start a conversation on taking better care of our returning veterans. Staff Sgt. Adam Sorensen was injured in 2010 by an explosive device in Afghanistan; 100 pieces of shrapnel pierced his body, and he required two surgeries.He could no longer serve in a combat role and spent the next couple of years as an instructor. The documentary follows Sorensen as he navigates civilian life and the effects of Post Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, and addiction on his marriage, family, and work.Filmmakers Danielle Bernstein and Jason Maris included scenes that can be hard to watch. "For me, it ultimately is to help people, because that's the whole reason I really wanted to make something that looked at how is this affecting people, families," said Maris. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of workers are racing to finish construction of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's newest exhibit, "Walkabout Australia".It is scheduled to open to the public Friday, May 25. Monday, 10News was the first station invited for a behind-the-scenes tour. The various habitats are meant to reflect the deserts, plains, and rainforests of Australia.But the heart of the exhibit is a large open area in which 20 kangaroos and wallaby will be able to roam free with Safari Park guests."I think that the public will feel like there's virtually no barriers almost on the walkway going up and when they get inside. They're just going to have so much fun," said San Diego Zoo architect Robyn Badger.Zookeepers have been working with the animals before the exhibit opens, getting them comfortable with their new habitat and with being around humans.The kangaroos and wallaby are likely to approach guests on the path. If it happens, guests are asked to stay calm and avoid harassing the animals.While people are not encouraged to reach out to touch the animals first, if the animals make contact, it is okay to gently pet them."If you're calm and you're respectful of those animals, they're absolutely going to want to come and see what you're up to," said Animal Care Manager Steve Metzler.Other animals at Walkabout Australia include tree kangaroos, magpie geese, and cassowary. 1398
