SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County public health officials have reported 2,509 COVID-19 infections and 27 additional deaths, bringing the county's totals to 122,972 cases and 1,280 fatalities.On Friday, a record 3,611 COVID-19 infections were reported. The cases surpassed the previous record set one week ago -- 2,867 last Friday -- by 744 new cases. "But the board directed county counsel to only argue that the order is incorrect as it relates to the continued operation of strip clubs and the allowance of indoor dining.""We support outdoor dining with appropriate safety protocols that have been previously established. An additional 305 COVID-19 patients are in ICUs -- also a record.The county's hospitals have 16% of their ICU beds available, unchanged since Tuesday, which is at odds with the state estimate that the Southern California region's ICU beds are entirely full.Where the discrepancy comes from is unclear.In the San Joaquin Valley, ICU beds are said to also be full. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 today to request guidance from the state on allowing resumption of several activities, including private planned events, wedding receptions, hotel conferences, street fairs and team competitions.In a letter to be sent to Gov. Gavin Newsom, the county will also seek guidance on reopening playgrounds.Supervisor Jim Desmond made the proposal after the board was updated on the county's efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus.Any reopening of those industries, he and other board members said, would only happen with the blessing of Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer.He added that while the county must take note of an uptick in community outbreaks, it ``can't have a blanket stop on the economy.''``Maybe, by the time Newsom responds, there will be more time to review this. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County public health officials confirmed 330 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, increasing the region's total to 46,331, but no new deaths, with that total remaining at 775.Five new community outbreaks were confirmed as of Friday, three in business settings, one in a restaurant/bar and one in a government setting. From Sept. 19 to Sept. 25, 18 community outbreaks were confirmed. The number of community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.The county reported 9,914 tests as of Friday and the percentage of new laboratory-confirmed cases was 3%.The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases is 3.3%. The target is less than 8%. The seven-day daily average of tests is 8,561.Sixteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported Saturday by San Diego State University, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,064 since Aug. 24, the first day of instruction for the fall semester.The new totals reported by Student Health Services reflect numbers as of 6 p.m. Friday.Of the students living on campus, 380 have tested positive and students living off campus totaled 663 positive cases, health services said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police Tuesday were searching for two men who carjacked a 43-year-old man at knifepoint near San Diego Mesa College in the Clairemont area.It happened shortly before 10:50 p.m. Monday in the 7200 block of Mesa College Drive, off Linda Vista Road west of state Route 163, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 43-year-old man had just parked his car, a blue 2019 Mazda3 sedan with California license plate 7YGF888, when two men walked up to him, Buttle said. One of the men was armed with a knife and placed the knife to the victim's stomach while demanding the car keys.The victim complied and both suspects drove off in the car, which was last seen heading eastbound on Mesa College Drive, Buttle said.
