SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies say a father has been arrested months after the death of his infant child in Santee.Daniel Charles Marshall, 34, was arrested on Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and booked into San Diego Central jail for murder and child abuse resulting in death, according to the Sheriff's Department (SDSO).On April 22, 2020, Santee Fire Department responded to a home in the 8600 block of Paseo Del Rey in Santee to a report of a seven-month-old infant in medical distress. SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. – A section of the Three Mile Bridge in Pensacola is missing after Hurricane Sally battered the Gulf Coast Wednesday morning.The structure, also known as the Pensacola Bay Bridge, runs between Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, Florida.WEAR reports that state Sen. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Marcos school is in mourning after their principal died suddenly over the weekend. According to a statement sent to 10News by the San Marcos Unified School District, Carrie Geldard, Principal of Discovery Elementary died over the weekend. The cause wasn’t immediately clear. “She served the SMUSD community in a variety of capacities over the last 22 years including teacher, assistant principal and principal. Carrie was fiercely passionate about developing the whole child, while also emphasizing literacy and ensuring that every student was successful and prepared for the future of their dreams,” the district said in part. In response to the death, the district says crisis response teams were sent to support students and staff. “We extend our deepest sympathies to Carrie’s family, the Discovery Elementary community and the San Marcos Unified School District community,” the district continued. 946

SCRIPPS RANCH (KGTV): At the top of a trail along Semillon Boulevard and Pomerado Road, right next to a sign that reads, "No Dumping - 00 fine," sits a giant pile of wood chips.It's been there for years, growing and shrinking in size. But right now, people who live nearby say it's as big as they can remember."Yeah, it is a little larger than normal," says Douglas Burns, who lives in a home next to the pile.The wood chips are from trees cut down by maintenance workers in the area. The work is part of the Scripps Ranch Civic Association's maintenance contract with the city. The workers take the leaves to the dump but leave the wood chips behind.Bob Ilko, the President of the SRCA, says it saves money on beautification projects. He says the city doesn't have to pay to haul the wood chips and tree pieces away or buy fresh mulch when they need it for landscaping.The wood chips are used to help with weed control and ground cover across Scripps Ranch."It's natural here, it's generated here, it stays here," says Ilko, adding that there's also an environmental benefit since it keeps all the wood chips out of city landfills.Ilko says the pile is larger than usual right now, but that's because crews have been hard at work clearing away dead and dying trees from the area.And while the wood chips are on city-owned land, that does not mean they're available to the general public."It's city property," says Ilko. "If people take them, it defeats the purpose of keeping the wood chips here to save money."He also says contractors are not allowed to use the area to dump their wood chips.When asked if the pile presents a fire hazard, Ilko told 10News the Fire Department has been out to inspect the area, and they say there is no danger of any spontaneous combustion."It's not mulch, it doesn't heat up and break down like manure or mulch," says Ilko. 1889

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating Monday night's shoot out at the border at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Christopher Barajas said he was pulling up to the line to head into the U.S, but turned back. "Everyone started screaming before I even get to the line," said Barajas. It happened around 7:30 p.m. when police and Customs and Border Protection officers say the driver of a white pick up truck refused to stop at a secondary inspection area. Instead, the twenty-three-year-old allegedly accelerated and tried to drive straight through the port into the United States before being blocked by a vehicle. Police say the driver started firing shots from inside his truck and then got out and continued shooting at officers. Seven C-B-P officers returned fire, hitting the man at least once. Officers and San Diego Fire Rescue crews performed life saving measures, but the suspect died at the scene."If they didn't find any individuals in there, smuggling, he was probably hiding something in there," said Barajas.White plastic garbage bags could be seen sitting on the truck's tailgate, but police haven't released any information about what, if anything, was found. Tuesday, only the Sentri and Ready lanes remained open on the northbound side. Traffic heading into Mexico was not affected.
