White House press secretary Sarah Sanders privately berated the White House communications and press staff Friday after a leak the previous day of comments by aide Kelly Sadler about Sen. John McCain, according to several sources familiar with the meeting. In discussing McCain's opposition to CIA nominee Gina Haspel, Sadler,?a special assistant who handles surrogate communications for the White House, said in a private meeting Thursday that it doesn't matter "because he's dying anyway." It was a joke that fell flat, a White House official told CNN. 571

We've seen headlines for weeks about Hertz selling off its fleet after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In reality, it isn't just Hertz and it didn't just start.“You should not expect, or the market should not expect, all of a sudden this influx of rental supply to hit the market because rental companies have been right sizing their fleets since at least mid-March,” said Larry Dixon, Senior Director of Valuation Services at J.D. Power. As COVID-19 forces car rentals and auctions to shut down, the rental companies started selling more to dealers who weren't able to replenish their used car supply. Now that auctions have opened, demand is up and so are auction prices. So far for retail, what we pay is stable. At the same time, new car sales are down. So, there are fewer trade-ins. That means better deals.“Dealers are going to be more likely to be more aggressive with a trade-in offer to a consumer, particularly for highly desirable late model vehicles, think that 2 to 5-year-old used vehicle,” said Dixon. As far as rental cars being a good buy, they are well-maintained and kept clean. The negatives are they have higher miles. But that can also be a positive in the price.A dealer doesn't have to disclose if a car was a rental. You can find out on your own with a vehicle history report. 1309

When students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas return to class after spring break next week, they'll be required to carry clear backpacks. The move is meant to ramp up security measures after last month's deadly shooting and a series of breaches since then."Clear backpacks are the only backpacks that will be permitted on campus," said Broward County School Superintendent Robert Runcie said in a letter sent to parents. 423

When Trey Ganem heard about the shootings in Sutherland Springs, he jumped in his car and drove 100 miles to the mourning town. The 46 year-old businessman didn't come just to bear condolences. He had something more tangible to offer: coffins.Ganem runs a casket design company in Edna, Texas, another small town east of Sutherland Springs. His seven employees build personalized coffins that usually sell for about ,500. He is offering to provide free custom-made coffins for the people slain Sunday at First Baptist Church. So far, he's gotten requests to make 15 caskets."When I first started five years ago, children burned in a fire in Edna, Texas. I donated caskets to the family. I knew the kids" he told CNN. "It was the most emotional time in my life."The tragic news out of Sutherland Springs stirred up the same emotions for Ganem."Immediately my heart opened up and I was like 'yes, we can do this,'" he said. "It's a small town. People that felt like they were safe ended up in this tragedy.""What we want to do is start the healing process here," Ganem said. "I want to make sure that we celebrate the lives of the people who were there."Ganem's caskets are always personalized. For some of the younger victims, he plans to paint coffins with princesses and Barbie. The smallest one will fit a 1-year-old girl.He sees his gesture as a way to help grieving families get through their darkest time."We want people to know that we are here for them. We are praying for these families that were affected and we will continue to." 1547

While much-needed rain falling in parts of Northern California could help firefighters battling the deadly Camp Fire, it could also prompt powerful mudslides and debris flow, adding to the devastation for communities that have already been ravaged by the flames.Authorities fear the showers -- even as they clear the choking smoke and help extinguish flames -- will trigger mudslides and floods in areas scarred by the Camp Fire, complicating the search for victims' remains. Rain could also pile on misery for people forced from their homes, some of whom are living in tent camps outside. Two weeks after the devastating fire started, 563 people are unaccounted for, Butte County Sheriff and Coroner Kory Honea said. Of the 83 killed in the Camp Fire, at least 58 of them have been tentatively identified as rescue crews sift through debris, searching for more remains. The rain could make the process of scouring through the ash and debris more complicated, and lead to treacherous conditions for firefighters, officials said.It has been raining on and off for the past several hours in the town of Paradise, which was wiped out by the fire. A flash flood watch remains in effect through Friday morning, CNN meteorologist Gene Norman said. 1247
