SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego area residents are among the contestants on Thursday evening's episode of the ABC miniature golf series "Holey Moley," including Avis Brown-Riley, who played in the 1988 U.S. Women's Open but missed the cut after two rounds."It was a spectacular and exhilarating experience, now I know what the movie stars experience while filming and one that I always treasure," she said of her miniature golf experience. "The Disney/ABC television production staff rolled out the red carpet and treated all the contestants like royalty. It was inspiring ... especially when the audience was rallying and cheering me along."She also tweeted the water she fell into was cold.Brown-Riley is a Chula Vista resident who is a member of the board of directors of the Southwestern College Foundation, serving as a goodwill ambassador for the community college. She is a breast cancer survivor who is an ambassador with the American Cancer Society, including speaking a golf events.Brown-Riley is a retired Fed Ex operations manager.The other San Diego area contestant is Ray Nugent, an entrepreneur and artist.The 9 p.m. episode includes appearances by four-time Olympic gold medal winning diver Greg Louganis and actor Steve Guttenberg.The episode is the second of "Holey Moley's" second season. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Traffic volume in the San Diego region was at its lowest point this year in April, and volume remains relatively low and speeds higher compared to 2019, according to an interactive map released Tuesday by the San Diego Association of Governments.The SANDAG Highway Hot Spots & Volumes Tracker measures weekday month-by-month vehicle miles traveled on local highways, including traffic speeds and average daily traffic volumes -- which, this year, reflect fewer cars on the road due to the pandemic. The data available on the tracker includes March through October 2020, and users can also compare current data to the same time in 2019. The SANDAG tracker is updated monthly."This new tool is intended to be a resource to assist community members and local leaders with current traffic data to make regional decisions," said Cynthia Burke, SANDAG director of research and program management. "The Highway Hot Spots & Volume Tracker Highway Hot Spots & Volumes Tracker has shown us that the greatest drop in traffic volumes this year were seen in April when we were down 44%, compared to the same time last year."The SANDAG tracker also shows that between June and October, traffic volumes hovered between 15% and 16% lower than compared to 2019.The number of vehicle miles traveled on eight local highways reflected that same trend. Data shows that in October, traffic remained lowest on State Route 163, which was down 29% compared to October 2019, and that State Route 78 and Interstate 805 were the closest to last year's figures at this time -- down 11% and 13%, respectively.The tracker offers multiple ways to interact with and explore the data, such as filtering to focus on points of interest and selecting data points in the chart to make simultaneous comparisons.SANDAG picked several San Diego region hotspots of particular interest, including Southbound Interstate 15 at Deer Springs Road, Southbound Interstate 5 at Manchester Avenue, Northbound I-805 at Governor Drive and Westbound State Route 52 at Mast Boulevard.Speed data at each of the hot spots during morning peak periods revealed that in October, speeds were up an average of about 6 mph compared to March.The largest increases were seen at Northbound I-805 at I-15 -- 13.7 mph faster in October -- and Westbound Interstate 8 at Waring Road -- 10.5 mph faster. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a woman accused of drunkenly dragging her co-worker with her car before fatally running him over in Kearny Mesa.Latisha Ingram, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving in the death of 25- year-old Ha Minh Ta.Prosecutors say Ingram, Ta, and a group of co-workers went out for drinks on Convoy Street last June, when Ingram tried to driver herself home. Ta tried to stop her, eventually grabbing the door of her car. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A customer at a downtown flooring warehouse found a man dead inside the business Wednesday afternoon, according to San Diego Police.First responders arrived and performed CPR but could not resuscitate the man.According to police, homicide detectives were called to the 1000 block of G Street around 4 p.m. to investigate the death.Ghedeer "Tony" Radda, 49, the owner of the business, suffered traumatic injuries to the torso, according to Lt. Matt Dobbs, but it was unclear if he'd been shot or stabbed.Police said surveillance cameras captured two suspects running from the area. They have yet to determine a motive.Police said one of the suspects is a man seen wearing a mask resembling an older woman with gray hair. He was also wearing a gray jacket and dark pants. The second suspect is a woman last seen with purple hair police say may be a wig. She was also wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans. Radda leaves behind a wife and two young children. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - UCSD and Scripps Institution of Oceanography alumna Megan McArthur will head to space as the pilot for the SpaceX Crew-2 mission in early 2021, NASA announced this week.The Crew-2 flight will be the second SpaceX Crew Dragon flight to the International Space Station as part of NASA's commercial crew program.McArthur, who received her doctorate in oceanography from Scripps in 2002, traveled to space aboard the space shuttle Atlantis in 2009. She and her crew were part of a 12-day mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. McArthur operated the shuttle's robotic arm that grabbed and released the telescope, making her the last person to "touch" the telescope. She was born in Honolulu but considers California her home state. She holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from UCLA.The SpaceX Crew-2 flight will be her first trip to the International Space Station.Joining McArthur is NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough as mission commander with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Akihiko Hoshide and European Space Agency astronaut Thomas Pesquet as mission specialists.McArthur is one of two Scripps Oceanography alumni who are astronauts. Alumna Jessica Meir returned from a visit to the International Space Station in April. Astronaut Kate Rubins also graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in biological sciences.Crew-2 is targeted to launch in spring 2021, following the successful completion of both NASA's SpaceX Demo-2 test flight mission -- which is expected to return to Earth on Sunday -- and the launch of NASA's SpaceX Crew-1 mission -- which is targeted for late September. The Crew-2 astronauts will remain aboard the space station for approximately six months as expedition crew members, along with three crewmates who will launch via a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. The increase of the full space station crew complement to seven members will allow NASA to effectively double the amount of science that can be conducted in space.NASA's commercial crew program is working with the American aerospace industry as companies develop and operate a new generation of spacecraft and launch systems capable of carrying crews to low-Earth orbit and the space station.
