BALTIMORE, Md. - The pitches Brandon Woody has bent on the trumpet have brought him to places many kids who were born in West Baltimore and grew up over East Baltimore only dream of.“The trumpet has allowed me to fly,” Woody said. “It’s allowed me to leave my city. It’s allowed me to go college in New York and California for free.”He started out playing drums at Leith Walk Elementary in East Baltimore.He quickly realized he wanted to make a change from percussion to brass.“I couldn’t take the instrument home for a whole two weeks, because we couldn’t take an instrument home until we got a sound out of it. Until we were able to play it.”After two weeks he could make a sound and has been bending pitches since.He’s been able to meet his idols like Theljon Allen, Christian Scott, and Clarence Ward.“They have made me more curious about being a black creator. About pushing the envelope, pushing the boundaries of the trumpet. Not putting it in a box. Friday marked one year since the Lilac fire changed their lives."I knew a lot of people would be thinking about it, I knew it would be in the community also," Michele Dollase said that's why she organized the event.Shortly after 11 a.m., trainers trickled onto the cafe's balcony, trading smiles, and hugs. Dollase said today was also time to, "think about the horses we did lose, the people who risked their lives." "Everybody come back and not try to forget but try to go on with life," Martine Bellocq said sitting in a wheelchair. BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A man is under arrest after police say several pipe bombs were found near a Florida strip mall Wednesday night.Gregory Haasze, 34, has been arrested on 26 counts of making, possessing, throwing, projecting, placing, or discharging a destructive device.Police said the bombs were found in the area of Congress Avenue and Old Boynton Road in Boynton Beach following reports of a loud noise in the area on Wednesday.Officers temporarily shut down nearby roads and businesses as they investigated the suspected pipe bombs. They also evacuated apartments, homes and stores in the area out of an abundance of caution.The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.A resident told WPTV she had to wait for more than an hour to get home."Since the Fourth of July, there have been really loud noises in the neighborhood," the neighbor said. "The only thing that could make that kind of sound is a bomb. I've never heard anything that loud before.
