BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Friday called for continued efforts to further study and practice the Scientific Outlook on Development.     Xi made the remarks at a meeting on further studying and practicing the Scientific Outlook on Development, which emphasizes the well-being of people and comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development.     The CPC launched an 18-month campaign to study and implement the outlook in September last year.     The campaign had so far yielded positive results, Xi said.     The Vice President urged relevant authorities to focus on improving social harmony and stability as well as party building at grassroots levels.     They should also focus on speeding up the transformation of the country's economic development mode, and should make meticulous plans for next year's work, in order to push forward reforms and development and maintain stability, he said.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Friday that China hopes to advance the strategic cooperative partnership with the Republic of Korea (ROK).     "We will work with the ROK to increase friendly exchanges at various levels and enhance pragmatic cooperation in various sectors," Hu told Kim Hyong-o, speaker of the ROK National Assembly.     Hailing the smooth development of China-ROK ties in recent years, Hu said the leaders of the two nations had maintained frequent contacts, exchanged views often and reached broad consensus on important issues.     "This gives strong impetus to the growth of bilateral relations," Hu noted. BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the United States can take active steps to eliminate discriminatory measures towards Chinese poultry products, said Yao Jian, spokesman of China's Ministry of Commerce, on Friday.     Yao made the remarks in a comment on the ministry's official website on the 2010 Agriculture Appropriations Bill, which has modified the stance towards Chinese poultry imports, compared to that in the Omnibus Appropriations Act 2009.     "We welcome the changes," Yao said.     He pointed out, however, there are still restrictions against Chinese poultry products in the new bill.     "China is evaluating whether the restrictions are totally in line with the non-discrimination principle of the World Trade Organization and other relevant regulations," Yao said.     "China's poultry products are safe and reliable... We hope the United States can stand on the footing of maintaining mutual benefit in China-U.S. trade and take active steps to eliminate discriminatory measures and normalize bilateral poultry trade at an early date," Yao said.     Yao hoped that the U.S. could modify relevant regulations to resume poultry imports from China.     The U.S. House of Representatives passed the 410-billion-U.S.-dollar Omnibus Appropriations Act 2009 in February, which said "none of the funds made available in this Actmay be used to establish or implement a rule allowing poultry products to be imported into the United States from the People's Republic of China."

BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged to improve taxation regulations to boost economic development and better ensure people's livelihood.     Li made the remarks when visiting the State Administration of Taxation on Thursday. Taxation is a major measure to pool financial revenue and boost social and economic development, and it also plays an important role in adjusting income distribution and improving people's livelihood, Li said.
