SAN DIEGO (CNS) - CVS Health announced Thursday it is expanding its COVID- 19 no-cost testing program by adding 35 more test sites at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thrus across California, including three locations in San Diego County, amid a surge in new coronavirus cases. The opening of additional test sites on Friday adds to the 107 locations previously opened statewide, including 14 in San Diego County. The nearly 200 additional test sites opening across the country this week are among the more than 1,400 locations CVS Health has opened since May and expand the company's testing capacity to more than 1.5 million tests per month, subject to availability of supplies and lab capacity, according to President and CEO Larry J. Merlo.Nearly 60% of the company's 1,400 test sites across the country, including 81% of sites in California, are in counties that serve communities with the greatest need for support, as measured by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Social Vulnerability Index. The index tracks a variety of census variables, including poverty, lack of access to transportation and crowded housing that may weaken a community's ability to prepare for and recover from hazardous events like natural disasters and disease outbreaks.Self-swab tests will be available to individuals meeting U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria, in addition to state and age guidelines.Patients must register in advance to schedule an appointment at https://www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/covid-19-testing.Patients will be required to stay in their cars and will be directed to the pharmacy drive-thru window or a location in the parking lot at a few stores, where they will be provided with a test kit and given instructions, and a CVS Pharmacy team member will observe the self-swab process to ensure it is done properly.Tests will be sent to an independent, third-party lab for processing and the results will be available in about three days.Testing will not take place inside any retail locations, and CVS Pharmacy, HealthHUB and MinuteClinic will continue to serve customers and patients. The testing sites opening Friday in San Diego County are located at the following CVS pharmacies:1810 Main St., Ramona;6265 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego; and800 Palm Ave., Imperial Beach.Previously opened San Diego County testing sites are located at CVS pharmacies at:2650 Gateway Road, Carlsbad;4615 Frazee Road, Oceanside;1980 College Blvd., Oceanside;9225 Twin Trails Drive, San Diego;1302 W. Mission Road, San Marcos;997 Woodland Parkway, San Marcos;635 S. Melrose Drive, Vista.7740 Rancho Santa Fe Road, Carlsbad;163rd Avenue Extension, Chula Vista;645 E. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego man was sentenced Friday to more than six years in prison for operating a million Ponzi scheme that caused investors to lose more than million. In addition to the 75-month sentence, Jonny Ngo, former president and CEO of NL Technology, LLC, was ordered to pay nearly million in restitution for bilking investors out of money he alleged would be used to fund wholesale purchase orders of smartphone screens and other electronic goods.Prosecutors said the funds were actually spent on personal expenses, such as "a home, luxury cars and gambling."Ngo, 34, told investors that NL Technology was supplying smartphone screens to several buyers, including two that each ordered about million worth of NL Technology products, and prepared false financial and bank statements to back up his claims, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.Ngo pleaded guilty to a mail fraud charge last year."Ngo swindled and conned innocent investors out of their hard-earned money to support his lavish lifestyle," FBI Special Agent in Charge Suzanne Turner said. "The false representations about wholesale purchase orders worth millions and supporting phony business records were all lies. Ngo's actions serve as an example of the unconscionable greed that fuels these all too common fraud cases." 1327

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Tijuana man and his three adult children were indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly smuggling hundreds of illegal immigrants across the border for profit, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Friday.Luis Antonio Mendez-Brahan, 55, remains at large, but his children, Christopher Mendez, 28, and Wendy Monserrath Mendez, 24, both of Wasco in Kern County; and Nancy Jacqueline Suarez, 31, of Madera, were arrested at their homes on Thursday, prosecutors said.Mendez-Brahan is accused of leading the smuggling scheme for nearly a decade, which allegedly operated near the Tecate Port of Entry and "used an ever-changing cadre of spotters, guides and drivers" to move "hundreds of illegal aliens into the United States."Mendez-Brahan is accused of charging between ,000 and ,500 for each person smuggled into the U.S., while his children allegedly used family members in both countries to move the money. Border Patrol investigators tracked financial transactions between Mendez-Brahan's children in the U.S. to money service businesses in Tijuana, according to prosecutors. The four family members are each charged with conspiracy to bring in illegal aliens for financial gain, to transport illegal aliens and to conduct financial transactions with proceeds of specified unlawful activity. Mendez- Brahan is additionally charged with five counts of bringing in aliens for financial gain. His three children made their first appearances in San Diego federal court on Friday. 1509

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - After reviewing options provided by the state of California regarding the coronavirus epidemic, the San Diego Air & Space Museum will close beginning Saturday, a spokesman said.Because of higher case numbers, San Diego County now sits in the purple tier of the state's four-tier coronavirus monitoring system, the most restrictive state rating. Many nonessential businesses will be required to move to outdoor-only operations. These include restaurants, family entertainment centers, wineries, places of worship, movie theaters, museums, gyms, zoos, aquariums and cardrooms.Amusement parks are closed. Bars, breweries and distilleries will be able to remain open as long as they are able to operate outside and with food on the same ticket as alcohol."We continue to highlight our internal/daily COVID-19 health safety protocols as the gold standard, in conformance with the CDC, the state of California and San Diego County," the museum's David Neville said."Accordingly, our staff looks forward to reopening at the soonest opportunity and is continuing efforts to work with the county and state to use valid science doing so. The plan must always be to create safe reopening options as soon as possible," he added.According to Neville, the recent dialogue associated with a safe reopening "is critical to our community businesses. And, doing it right is vital to our success as a nation."We must identify, and correct those areas of concern and reopen those organizations we highlight through science and data as not contributing to COVID-19 spread," Neville said. "The credibility of safely reopening is an unwritten mandate."Neville said the museum looks forward to "continued county efforts on our behalf, and on behalf of every business and citizen hurt by this pandemic. We're in it together and embrace absolute safety when it comes to staff and guests, just as we always have." 1916
