SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new political attack ad accuses mayoral candidate Barbara Bry of repeatedly falling asleep at public meetings. The ad is from a committee that supports State Assemblyman Todd Gloria. It says San Diego needs a mayor on alert given the coronavirus outbreak, the threat of wildfires, and the homeless crisis. It then cuts to shots of Bry appearing to doze off at two City Council Committee meetings within the last year. The committee, called Neighbors for Housing Solutions Supporting Todd Gloria for San Diego Mayor 2020, is backed by more than a dozen organizations, including the Municipal Employees Association and the Regional Chamber of Commerce. Attorney Gil Cabrera, its principal, is responsible for the ad."If it was a random falling asleep during a 10-hour council meeting, I'm not going to get into that, there's an amusement factor to it but I'm not going to get into it. It's the pattern of it," Cabrera said.Cabrera said Bry regularly dozes off at public meetings, but also said employees who see it fear retaliation for speaking out. Still, the ad raises questions about accuracy. It shows an image of Bry appearing to sleep at a committee meeting on the city's Get it Done app, while the narrator says she fell asleep during a meeting on police reform. "If this ad is talking about a meeting on police reform but showing a picture of Barbara Bry in a very different hearing, one, that plays a bit fast and loose with the truth and two, it makes problems with the ad the story rather than the Barbara Bry falling asleep on the job, which is what the backers of this ad wanted you to think about," said Thad Kousser, political scientists at UC San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man reportedly attacked by four teenagers near Petco Park died Monday morning, family members tell 10News. 56-year-old Edward Leon Starland died several weeks after being attacked and beaten on November 18 around 2 p.m. Several teenagers, including 19-year-old Dominick Wells and three juvenile females ages 14, 15 and 17 were all taken into custody on felony battery charges. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple gun charges in a Tucson, Arizona federal court.Joshua Pratchard came to the FBI's attention after a short-lived attempt to join what prosecutors call a border militia group in Arizona in January 2018. The group kicked Pratchard out after just a few days, saying he did not want to follow their rules, including repeatedly asking to get physical with detainees and demanding to put a silencer on his weapon. He was also deemed eager for confrontations with criminal bandits known as "rip crews" who seek to steal drug loads in the desert.Pratchard continued to be involved in activity in Arizona, leading to contact with a member of the group who was a FBI informant. Pratchard revealed that he manufactured and sold weapons. The informant reported this to the FBI, which led to an investigation. Eventually, Pratchard was arrested after selling firearms to the informant. A search of Pratchard's apartment in Pacific Beach led to the discovery of a "gun factory." Along with the machinery to build firearms and bullets, agents found four homemade guns and enough gunpowder for 9,000 rounds of ammunition.The FBI investigation also discovered Pratchard's criminal history, which includes a conviction for having ecstasy when he was serving in the Marine Corps, and a 2007 felony assault conviction.Although he has been sentenced on the gun charges, Pratchard's legal trouble may not be over. During the sentencing hearing, prosecutors made multiple references to a non-profit organization Pratchard ran in San Diego which could see fraud charges filed in the future. 10News uncovered Pratchard's involvement leading a charity known as "Second Chance Fields," which is dedicated to rebuilding or refurbishing athletic fields at San Diego schools. His website touts to significant projects, including renovation of the baseball field at Mission Bay High School and a large-scale renovation of football and lacrosse facilities at Del Norte High School. For the latter project, Pratchard recruited former San Diego Padres star Adrian Gonzalez, who appeared at a press conference with Pratchard at the school and whose foundation donated ,000, according to the Second Chance Fields website.10News asked the FBI if there was an investigation underway into Pratchard and Second Chance Fields. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new Father Joe's Villages bike program is giving homeless clients a hand-up, teaching them valuable skills in demand throughout the community.It's the latest addition to their STEPs program which stands for Skills and Training Enhancement Programs.After several weeks of hands-on training, homeless individuals receive a certificate as well as resume help and other workforce skills.RELATED: This is San Diego's plan to become more bike-friendlyThe program doesn't technically launch for several more weeks but caught the attention of a former music manager who is currently biking across the country for a good cause.Through his Dream Machine Tour, Charlie Jabaley is on a mission to change a million lives through giving to people in need.During his stop in San Diego, Jabaley learned the bike program was in need of more supplies.
