SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 3,000 street lights in San Diego is expected to get ‘eyes and ears’ by the end of the month.Last year, the city announced that they would be retrofitting 3,200 street lights with smart technology.RELATED: Smart street lights coming to San Diego Nearly 3,000 of the “sensor packages” have been installed on existing street lights according to David Graham, Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Smart & Sustainable Communities.  However, they have not yet been activated.The technology on the street lights has a sort of camera and microphone.While it may seem a little “Big Brother-ish” to some, Graham assures the public they won’t be used for spying. The cameras and sensors would only collect data on parking, traffic congestion, and pedestrian safety. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – On Friday, the president of San Diego's Christian Youth Theater (CYT) held a press conference addressing this week's claims by several former students that they experienced sexual misconduct or sexual abuse by former teachers.CYT President Janie Russell Cox said the San Diego branch will remain dark until further notice as they investigate these abuse claims. “We are fully committed to the safety of every single child and we are grieving for every single individual whom we love and we care so deeply for. We apologize. [We] love you,” Cox added.The El Cajon-based program was founded 40 years ago and is for students ranging from 4 years old to 18 years old. CYT claims to be the largest youth theater group in the country with branches nationwide.Artist Brian Justin Crum, who went on to become a finalist on America's Got Talent, told ABC10 News on Friday that when he was 13 years old, his former CYT teacher invited him to a gay pride event. “I remember him questioning my sexuality and saying basically, like, you should come to this thing and see what you think and see how you feel when you're there and we can go together. I'll take you,” Crum said. “It was creepy. It felt inappropriate.”Crum said he was not assaulted but boundaries were crossed. “There was definitely a culture there where the teachers and the students were too close,” he added.On Tuesday, attorney Jessica Pride told ABC10 News that she's representing a former student who claims to have been sexually abused and several other former students have been contacting the law firm. “I think over the next couple of weeks as things unfold, you're going to see that this was just rampant at CYT and that they didn't do anything to protect these children,” said Pride.When asked Friday about whether staff ignored complaints from former students against former teachers, Cox replied, “I can't answer that. I don't have enough knowledge to know what decisions were made at that time and that's part of our investigation to find out.”Cox told reporters that CYT is starting a diversity committee and looking at doing restructuring to diminish favoritism, nepotism, and discrimination. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Over the last year, thousands of San Diegans received incorrect water bills, but as the city recently discovered, thousands of customers received no bills at all.Officials said at a news conference Thursday afternoon that as many as 2,500 customers may have been affected over the last three to six months. In a press release sent to 10News Thursday, the city blamed a backlog of work orders and additional training for staff on a gap between meters and the public utilities department billing system.RELATED: Audit shows City sent thousands of faulty water bills?The city says meters were still collecting usage data, but the information wasn't being generated into a bill.Earlier this year, Mayor Kevin Faulconer asked the department to re-read every meter in the city. After the project was complete, workers found 10,000 meters broken, damaged or in need of replacement. The city is working to notify customers of the amounts they may owe and says that no water service will be affected. The city also promised that payment plans will be made available for customers.The issue comes on the heels of another problem with the department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Officers responding to a reported car crash in Sherman Heights early Thursday morning found a man in one of the vehicles suffering from gunshot wounds.At around 12 a.m., San Diego police officers were dispatched to 27th and K streets after a vehicle crash.When officers arrived, they found a car had slammed into at least one parked car.Inside one of the cars was a man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries, according to SDPD officials.Police learned the driver was heading south in the 300 block of 27th Street when some area residents reported hearing gunfire. The driver eventually collided with the parked vehicle in the 200 block of 27th Street.The victim was identified as a 25-year-old Hispanic male.SDPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating the incident. 835
