SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Raids are expected to begin across the country this weekend targeting undocumented immigrants with deportation orders.According to the New York Times, ICE agents will target some 2,000 who have deportation orders in at least ten cities. The raids will include "collateral" deportations, meaning undocumented immigrants at the scene may also be detained."There is definitely fear," said Benjamin Prado, a member of the 38-year-old group Union Del Barrio. This weekend, the group will be sending out an unspecified number of patrols in various communities. Prado showed 10News a video recorded by the group on Thursday morning. In it, a tip from neighbors in City Heights led them to two vehicles believed to being driven by ICE agents. The group in turn informed people through different means, including social media posts about the presence of the agents.Another group taking action is the Council on American-Islamic Relations. On Thursday morning, national CAIR reissued a community advisory ahead of the impending raids."When you're stressed the first thing you forget is your rights," said Aleena Jun Nawabi, who heads outreach for CAIR San Diego.In the advisory, CAIR officials emphasize rights, including not having to open the front door unless there's a warrant.Those rights are also highlighted in cards and handouts that will be given out by Union Del Barrio. Sources tell 10News that San Diego is not expected to be included among the cities in this first round of raids.An ICE spokesperson issued the following statement: “Every day, as part of routine operations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Fugitive Operations teams target and arrest criminal aliens and other individuals who are in violation of our nation’s immigration laws for the safety and security of our communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Pacific Beach mother Sandy Algra says her number one job is keeping her child safe, something she wasn’t able to do a few months ago.Algra and her 3-year-old son were at Liberty Station Park when he was scratched by a dirty needle, sending him to the emergency room. Algra says he underwent an infectious disease consultation and will require HIV and Hepatitis C tests every six months.“Right now I’m trying to channel and redirect the anger that I feel about what happened to him, that I wasn’t able to keep him safe," said Algra.She's created a petition to designate San Diego’s playgrounds for children only; adults are only allowed if they’re accompanied by a child.Similar ordinances already exist in New York and Florida, people who violate them can face fines. "I think that most people can use common sense and understand that an adult is not meant to be living under a slide, or sitting on a swing doing drugs or otherwise, that's not what these playgrounds are designed for," said Algra. The petition has over 1,000 signatures and has garnered support from the Pacific Beach Planning Group and Pacific Beach Town Council.Algra plans to eventually bring the petition to San Diego City Council. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Neighbors are expressing their collective frustration after a vandal tagged a new community mural in South Park."Pretty awful and disrespectful. A lot of time, energy and love into this piece," said Heather Johnson.At 30th and Juniper Street and 30th Street, the community mural sponsored by several neighborhood businesses was targeted by a vandal over the weekend."I think it's disgusting to be honest with you," said Brian Padgett.The phrase "#Neighborhood" was spray-painted over, replaced with the phrase "ETHNIC CLEANSING." At the bottom of the mural, the phrase "#Hipster Pacifism" was tagged in purple."Disheartening, frustrating and an act of cowardice," added Ezekiel Morphis.Neighbors believe the spray-painted messages are sounding off against the gentrification of South Park. The tagged wall is a part of a building which will soon be home to a non-profit restaurant benefiting local schools. It was once home to long-time coffeehouse priced out of the area almost two years ago."It happens in every neighborhood. As a city grows, there is change. This is not the way to handle it," said Johnson.Some paint was quickly put on the tagging, but the creators of the mural — which cost about ,000 — say it may cost another ,000 to repair.
