SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - Several people in a San Marcos gated community have reported being targets of package thieves, according to one victim who spoke with 10News. The Sheriff's Department is looking at surveillance video, which appears to provide several leads.Mikayla Manos says a package was sent to her home on Almond Drive Friday.  Manos is a mentor for foster children. The package contained the personal items of one of those children, which she was asked to deliver to him.  When Manos arrived home, she did not see the package.Manos checked with her next-door neighbor, who has a surveillance camera. Video from Friday afternoon shows a girl walking past Manos' home. She turns and points toward Manos' porch and can be heard saying "get it".The video shows what appears to be a boy picking something up from Manos' porch, although the package cannot be clearly seen from the camera angle. At least two voices can be heard off camera. One is heard saying "I can't wait to wear these to school tomorrow." Manos says clothes are among the items stolen.Manos says she knows of at least three other neighbors who were victims.  10News spotted an empty Nordstrom bag ripped open on one neighbor's porch, while another neighbor tells 10News someone stole items from his garage when he briefly left it open around the same time.Several package boxes were found dumped nearby, including Manos'. Some of the foster child's items were recovered, but many remain missing. 1498

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KGTV and AP) — A former Camp Pendleton Marine was found guilty Wednesday of the murders of five women in Southern California more than two decades ago, including a San Diego woman in 1988.Orange County jurors convicted Andrew Urdiales of five counts of murder with enhancements for attacking a volunteer usher after a college piano concert and picking up four prostitutes, driving them to remote or deserted areas, having sex with them and killing them. The verdict raises to eight the number of women killed by the 53-year-old former Marine.Urdiales was previously convicted of killing three women in Illinois in 2002 and 2004. He was given a death sentence that was commuted to life without parole after Illinois barred the death penalty. He was extradited to California in 2011 to stand trial in the murders of five women in Riverside, Orange and San Diego counties between 1986 and 1995. For these killings, California prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.RELATED: Ex-Marine linked to 1986 killing in San DiegoThe penalty phase of the trial will begin Thursday for jurors to evaluate whether to recommend a death sentence for Urdiales or life without parole.Attorneys declined to comment publicly on the verdicts before the trial has concluded.Authorities said Urdiales, who moved to Southern California in 1984 as a 19-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine, killed four women while in the military and a fifth while vacationing in Palm Springs in 1995.According to police and prosecutors, then-Marine Andrew Urdiales shot 31- year-old Maryann Wells in the head in a deserted industrial complex on Second Avenue in downtown San Diego after having sex with her in the early morning hours of Sept. 25, 1988.He then allegedly took back the he had paid the victim and fled, leaving behind a condom from which investigators obtained genetic material that eventually implicated him in the slayingUrdiales attacked 23-year-old Robbin Brandley after a jazz piano concert in 1986 at an Orange County community college and stabbed her to death in the parking lot. Two years later, he picked up Julie McGhee, a 29-year-old prostitute, and drove her to a remote area, had sex with her, shot her in the head and left her body in the desert, authorities said.Urdiales went on to attack and kill three more Southern California women and three Illinois women who were working as prostitutes, authorities said. The California murders went unsolved for more than a decade until Urdiales was arrested after he returned home to Illinois.Authorities stopped Urdiales in 1996 and found a weapon in his truck that he wasn't allowed to carry, prosecutors said. The next year, authorities matched the weapon to the one used to kill the Illinois women and arrested him for those murders. 2796

SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - A 32-year-old man was wounded in a shooting early Wednesday morning in a San Ysidro parking lot, police said.It happened shortly after 3:45 a.m. on East Beyer Boulevard, north of Camino De La Plaza, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said. The victim had parked his vehicle in a public parking lot, then entered Mexico on foot through a pedestrian crossing, Martinez said. "One of the bullets struck the front windshield of the vehicle and struck (the victim) in the chest."The victim called 911 and was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, Martinez said. The gunman fled the area on foot. The suspected gunman was described as a 6-foot Latino in his 30s, about 200 pounds, with a bald head and a goatee. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- 92 Drinks + Eats, formerly known as 92nd Street Cafe, was known for karaoke, dancing, and flowing drinks on most nights. But now, things are different due to COVID-19, and owner Nicole Dinkel is working hard to keep her doors open while keeping customers happy."This industry has been affected very hard," said Dinkel. "We're out here just trying to do the best we can. We're a small business, I run this with my father day-to-day."Dinkel said she and her father, Ed, have been forced to shut down three times over the past few months. The first time was in March when Governor Doug Ducey issued a Stay-At-Home order for Arizona. The second time was after several of their employees tested positive for COVID-19, and a third time after trying to re-configure the usually busy bar to offer a safer dine-in experience."The signage on the door over here "mask up," it says 'avoid the humans keep, your six-foot distance,"' said Dinkel. "We want everyone to understand that it's not us making these rules, we just have to enforce them. It's the only way we can stay open."Dinkel employs a handful of families, including mother and son duos, as bartenders and servers."I have several families who depend on me here, not just my livelihood, but theirs," she added. "If you have customers coming in here not wanting to abide by the rules, it's not worth losing my business or getting in trouble for."Dinkel had to stand her ground last weekend when a group of women went in for dinner and drinks and caused a scene."They were dancing, I had to tell them 'ladies, I'm so sorry I can't have you standing within 6-feet with Ducey's new rules. Can you please take a seat?' They would say OK, and then again in a few minutes, they would still stand up," added Dinkel. "So at the end, I said ladies listen I need to either have you take a seat or need to have you exit with a mask. They just weren't listening."Surveillance video from 92 Drinks + Eats shows one of the four women stand up from the table, without a mask, and blow in Dinkel's face."In that moment, I was shocked," said Dinkel. "I told her to get out of my establishment immediately with all of her friends and I walked them over to the exit."Dinkel then started recording the group as some women started yelling. She says several of her employees joined her outside as the confrontation continued. Then says the same woman took things to another level."She actually reaches across my bartender and snatches my mask off of my face, throws it to the ground, scratches my face."Dinkel contacted Scottsdale police, who then contacted the group of women that night and issued no trespassing orders. On Friday, ABC15 confirmed the Scottsdale Police Department filed assault charges against one woman. No arrests have been made. Instead, the charges are being sent to prosecutors with a notice for the woman to appear in court."There's a global pandemic going on right now," said Dinkel. "For someone to be able to think that they can do that to another person is shocking... I would hope that they feel really embarrassed and ashamed of their behavior."This story was first reported by Nicole Valdes at KNXV in Phoenix, Arizona. 3202
