CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - It's art with a message, and the purposeful signs can be found throughout Middle Tennessee.The word "vote" is written on each of Paul Collins' artistic animal signs. The art pieces range in shapes sizes and species. Some are even hidden from plain sight while others can't be missed.It's become quite the scavenger hunt for some on the lookout for these signs."I look around and place them by bus stops," Collins said. "I look for the corners that have 'vote for me' signs because that’s fair game."Collins, an Austin Peay State University art professor, started the project 100 days before election day. Although he only planned to create one a day counting down until November 3, more and more people started requesting the signs and now he's made over 200. The signs can be spotted from Springfield to Nashville to Brentwood and Clarksville.Collins is a New Yorker who moved to Tennessee a decade ago and has used this project to see his new home state."A lot of this is getting to know your city," said Collins. "it’s been great to my family part of this was just a love letter to the city and go to places I haven’t been."Collins is doing all of this out of his own pocket and gives away the signs for free. He says as long as it inspires residents to register and vote, it's a job well done."Vote that's it, it's really simple," Collins said, "Exercise the joy and responsibility of being American and vote."The voter registration deadline is October 5. Colorado Parks and Wildlife said that a yearling bear that was burned during a wildfire last month is recovering well and should be released in coming weeks.The bear was found in the midst of the East Canyon Fire, which burned thousands of acres in southwest Colorado last month, and rescued by CPW officers, who took it to the Frisco Creek rehab facility for treatment on its singed paws and other injuries.The bear is a yearling born during the winter in 2019, CPW said. CPW Officer Steve McClung said at the time the bear likely got caught in the wildfire and had to run across hot spots. The veterinary manager at Frisco Creek said the bear’s injuries would likely not lead to any permanent damage.On Tuesday, CPW sent out new photos of the bear looking healthier already, and said that Frisco Creek had given good news on the bear’s rehab progress. 861

CINCINNATI, Ohio — An Ohio man who falsely claimed in 2019 to be a long-missing boy received a mandatory two-year federal prison sentence on Tuesday after pleading guilty to aggravated identity theft.U.S. District Court Judge Michael Barrett gave Brian Rini, 25, credit for time served in jail, where Rini has been detained for nearly 21 months. That means Rini will be released from prison in about three and a half months.In April 2019, Rini told federal agents he was Timmothy Pitzen, an Aurora, Illinois, boy who disappeared at age 6 in 2011.Rini claimed he was also a sex trafficking victim who escaped from his captors.His lies prompted a massive federal, state and local investigation and raised the hopes of the Pitzen family, only to see them crushed again when the FBI soon exposed Rini's lie."I just want to say I'm sorry for what I've done and that I wish that I could just take it back," Rini said during a video hearing in Cincinnati. "I'm sorry for the family."Rini has twice before made bogus claims about being a juvenile sex trafficking victim and only admitted to the hoax this time after being confronted with the results of a DNA test, according to the FBI."He can't keep doing this. This is no way to live his own life and he really needs to think of the people that he hurts when he does this," said Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Healey, who prosecuted the case.Healey said Rini's lies prompted a major criminal investigation that pulled important law enforcement resources away from other cases, and caused "an enormous amount of unnecessary pain to the victim's family.""He needs to understand that when he tells lies like this it does cause damage. Cristina Schaffer was behind the lens as a professional photographer for 17 years, but the images she captured after COVID-19 are unlike anything she took before."I took out my biggest lens, I was about 20 feet away she opened up her door and had words writing on her hand and she was such a bright light totally happy," Cristina described of a woman she photographed from behind a window who was battling stage 4 breast cancer.It's all part of her 'front porch portrait' collection."They come to front porch and I just direct them from there. Each shoot's about 10 minutes unless its a big family."Cristina started the project after COVID-19 forced everyone in."It was like 'let's take photos and capture a moment in time' and this moment in time is crazy unprecedented and I think that's what attracts people."The photos were all taken from a distance. "I let everyone know masks signs props are all welcome they can come out in their pajamas or they can dress up to the nines whatever they want I'm just there to capture them on their front porchHer fee was a donation.
