OLATHE, Kan. — Court documents released Monday say a Johnson County, Kansas mom was nearly successful in killing at least two of her children last month.Therese Roever faces three counts of attempted capital murder for allegedly drugging her three children on February 19.It wasn’t until her ex-husband arrived to pick up the kids that anyone knew something was wrong.Court documents indicate the ex-husband tried to get into the house for more than an hour but Roever did not open the door or answer the phone.When Roever finally let the ex-husband inside, he found his ex-wife “drugged and groggy.”First responders arrived to find the couple’s 7-year-old daughter on a bed not responding. Their 5-year-old initially got up from the bed but then stumbled to the ground. A third child, 7, was found in the bathroom crying.While the kids were en-route to the hospital, paramedics used Narcan – a drug commonly used to reduce the symptoms of opioid overdose – on two of the kids.Doctors told investigators that had police not arrived when they did, two of the children would have died.Roever remains in the Johnson County Jail on a million bond. She’s scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on April 20. 1259

(KGTV) - Students at El Camino High School have a chance to put their stamp on pop culture.They're designing shoes for the Vans Custom Culture competition.El Camino High School is one of just 500 schools in the country to be picked for the contest. More than 200 students submitted designs at the school, but only two will advance to the national competition.Sophomore Isiah Duran is one of the students whose design was chosen."I basically did what I thought was Oceanside," he says. "The pier, sunsets, the beach."The students could make designs based on two categories, "Local Flavor" and "Off the Wall.""It resonates with the younger culture," says El Camino Art Teacher Diego De La Luz. "It resonates with activities that range from biking to skateboarding and really just the Southern California vibe which Oceanside is all about."The winner will receive ,000 for their school's art department. Vans will also endow a scholarship for a student from the winning school to attend the Laguna Art Institute.De La Luz says the students will decide how to spend the money at the school if they win. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Oceanside could be getting a new active sports complex, complete with a man-made wave pool, perfect for surfing competitions, according to Mayor Peter Weiss. The idea is in it's beginning stages, no formal paperwork has been submitted to the city clerk. 10News spoke with her Wednesday and she said the developer, Zephyer Partners, has been talking with council members.Neighbors have already been hearing construction equipment hacking away at the remains of the drive-in that operated before the swap meet took over."When I was driving by and I saw you standing here I thought I need to find out because she probably knows more than I do," Neighbor Liz Lewellen said.She said the neighborhood has been wondering what could happen to the lot. Mayor Weiss told 10News the developer gave him this pitch, "n active sports complex, there would be a BMX track, a climbing wall, things like that, it would also have a hotel and then sports oriented retail." He also described a wave pool that mimics the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch in Fresno. The facility is state-of-the-art and perfect for competitions.The idea sparking interest in the community. Lewellen was shocked and excited when she heard."I love the idea that it's commercial coming in because this area desperately needs more restaurants more things," Lewellen said. "So that's really exciting, I know that we have the skate park up the street and that's been a god send for the kids and the active people in the neighborhood."Thursday Zephyr Partners will host a community workshop at Saint Mary Star of the Sea School from 6-8 p.m."It's something unique, I think I'd like to actually see the plans what they're proposing," Weiss said.When asked if Lewellen would try out the wave pool, "I've always wanted to learn how to surf," she said laughing, "so maybe, we'll see, if it's the perfect wave, maybe someone can train me how to perfectly get up on the board."Lewellen had one concern though, wondering how traffic would affect her drive to and from home.Zephyr Partners did not respond to 10News's request for comment. Officers in Columbus, Ohio are crediting a good Samaritan for tripping a suspect who was reaching into his waistband while being chased by officers. The police department released video from the April 3 incident on Thursday. Cameras captured the man, who Columbus Police are calling "Bill," casually sticking out his leg outside of a public library as the suspect ran behind him. The suspect then went flying into the sidewalk, giving officers an opportunity to arrest the unidentified suspect. Police said that they recovered a Glock 9 MM pistol with a high capacity extended clip containing 29 rounds near the suspect. Columbus Police added that citizen likely saved the suspect's life as officers might have shot the suspect for pulling out the gun. In the video released by Columbus Police, Bill said that he could see the suspect was holding something from his waistband."I heard him hit and the gun went sliding out," Bill said. "He went one way and the gun went another.""Thank you 'Bill' for sticking your leg out for us," Columbus Police said on the department's Facebook page.Columbus Police did not say what the 18-year-old suspect was wanted for.  1217
