LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A large ``Trump'' sign erected overnight on a hillside near the San Diego (405) Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass was taken down by authorities today.The sign -- consisting of white capital letters similar to the `Hollywood'' sign -- was taken down by Caltrans workers by about 9 a.m.It was not known who put the sign in place. Neither the Los Angeles Police Department nor the California Highway Patrol had any information about the sign when reached by City News Service. Freeway traffic was not affected. LONG BEACH (CNS) - A woman was killed early Monday afternoon by a man who used a scooter to assault her on a street in Long Beach.Officers responded about 12:30 p.m. to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 6400 block of North Obispo Avenue, according to Long Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Shaunna Dandoy.``The victim is believed to be a female adult who was walking eastbound towards Obispo and 64th (Street)'' when a man ran up and began assaulting her, Dandoy said.A bystander tried to help, at which time the suspect grabbed a scooter and used it to continue attacking the woman, according to Dandoy.The suspect was last seen running west from the location on foot. Fire department personnel responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene, Dandoy said. (CNS) - Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia announced Monday that his stepfather died due to complications from COVID-19, one day after the family held a memorial service for the mayor's mother."We are incredibly saddened to share that my stepfather, Greg O'Donnell, has passed away due to complications from COVID-19," Garcia said in a statement. "It's a heartbreaking loss for our entire family, especially for my brother Jake."O'Donnell, who died Sunday at 58, "was a kind and good-hearted man, an amazing father and grandfather, and the best husband our mom could have ever hoped for. He worked hard for his family and started his own successful small business as a contractor with his brothers," Garcia said.Garcia's mother, Gaby O'Donnell, a longtime health care worker, died late last month due to complications from the coronavirus at the age of 61.
