The Trump administration is making revisions to the naturalization test for the first time in a decade, US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Friday. The agency is focusing on changes to the civics portion of the test, though there could also be updates to the English section, according to a USCIS official. The announcement comes amid a heated debate over who should be allowed in the country after President Donald Trump targeted progressive congresswomen, telling them to "go back" to where they came from. Three of the four women were born in the US. The other is a naturalized citizen. As of March 2019, the overall national pass rate is 90%. In fiscal year 2018, nearly 757,000 people were naturalized, USCIS says. The citizenship test, which immigrants must pass to become US citizens, was last revised in 2009. It 843
There are places all over the Las Vegas region that are familiar to police. Hot spots that generate a lot of calls. Some might surprise you!KTNV in Las Vegas obtained a year's worth of data from Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson police departments to track the top locations. Data show police are responding to many of the same places every day, several times a day. As expected, some of the biggest Las Vegas Strip properties with the most traffic generate the most calls to police. The Strip is in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction.New to the top 10 in 2,018, at number 10, is the Wynn Las Vegas with 1,064 calls. That's up from 930 calls in 2,017.Fashion Show mall moved into the top ten also, racking up 1,125 in 2018. That means LVMPD responded on average three times a day, every single day. Click each location for ranking and number of service callsThe 5th location with the most calls is Planet Hollywood at 1,312. In 4th place with 1,567, The Cosmopolitan. The 3rd location is the Bellagio with 1,646 calls. Topped by Caesars Palace in 2nd place at 2,094.And sitting at number one for the second year in a row is MGM Grand with 2,492 calls for service in 2018.While the Wynn and Fashion Show mall are new to the Hot Spots list, the Flamingo hotel and Cromwell casino dropped out of the Top 10 for locations on the Strip. LVMPD tells us the vast majority of these calls are for unspecified trouble, disturbances, suspicious vehicles and cars and theft. 1503
There is an urgent need for more healthcare workers nationwide.Recruiting firm NuWest Group is working to find 200 nurses before the end of this week. Specifically, they want intensive care unit (ICU) nurses who will travel to the hardest hit areas, like New York City.“What all these facilities are gearing up for is this middle of April timeline, so the big rush to get these nurses to where they need to be before the peak hits,” said Mona Veiseh, President of NuWest Group’s Healthcare Division. NuWest Group says it wants to speed-up nurses becoming licensed to work in other states. They did this in Washington state. New York is already willing to look at any licensure across the country.Nurses are being paid more incentives to work where the greatest need is. Mona Veiseh says the pay rates for ICU nurses and registered respiratory technicians are the highest she's seen in her 14 years in the business. She's also seeing many nurses already answering the call to go where there is need.“I have seen entire units lend groups of ICU nurses to other units across the country trying to get the nurses to where the outbreaks are the most significant,” said Veiseh. Another unprecedented measure – nurses and medical students are being fast tracked to work in hospitals earlier. Some nurses in New Jersey are working in field hospitals for their final semester instead of going to school. Students at New York University’s school of medicine will start their internships at hospitals in the city three-months early.NuWest Group has 1550
The U.S. Army hasn't been able to do in-person recruiting at events because of the pandemic, so its esports team has been stepping in to fill the gap, increasing their presence online.“When we're streaming on different platforms like Twitch or Mixer or YouTube or even Facebook, you're going to see more frequency of that for soldiers showcasing their skillsets in different games or playing a game just casually for anyone to come in and have a conversation,” said Sgt. 1st Class Chris Jones, general manager of the Army Esports Team. The team has also been running and sponsoring online tournaments during the pandemic. This is a shift from their efforts last year going to video gaming conventions across the country. They say the online tournaments get the word out about Army opportunities and then a recruiter can follow up with people playing. It's also attracting someone who may not have considered joining the military.“So, it’s coming from someone who may be super passionate about gaming and loves esports and then they find that we have a whole lot in common to show that there isn't a very specific person that enlists in the army that some people might believe,” said Jones. The soldiers on the Army Esports Team are assigned to do this as their full-time job in the military for up to three years. As they work to recruit more people, one thing that's helping make up for the current shortfall is the number of people who are choosing to extend their time with the military. The Army recently exceeded its retention goal. 1545
Thick, black graffiti sprayed onto a Russian polar bear's coat poses an extra threat to an animal already in danger, experts say.Video shared on social media shows a lumbering polar bear whose back had been branded with "T-34," the name of an old Soviet Union tank. The video was posted to Facebook on December 1 by Sergey Kavry, a World Wildlife Fund employee who lives in the remote Russian region. In the comments, Kavry said he obtained the video via WhatsApp from indigenous minorities in Chukotka, in Russia's far east, though it is not clear from the video where it was filmed.Polar bears are having to 620
