A prank gone wrong landed two men in jail and has potentially scarred a little girl for life.At about 10 p.m. local time on Saturday, 25-year-old Vernon Barrett was wearing a clown mask and chasing his 6-year-old daughter outside their apartment in Boardman, Ohio, according to Youngstown's WKBN-TV.According to witnesses, the girl, obviously terrified, was screaming and ran into the unlocked apartment of neighbor Dion Santiago, 48.According to WFMJ-TV, Santiago told police that when the girl ran in to his apartment, he looked out the window and saw a man in a clown mask on the lawn. Santiago then grabbed his gun and fired a warning shot out the window.When police arrived at the scene, Barrett told them he was "playing a prank" on his daughter, according to WFMJ.WKBN reported that Barrett told officers he was trying to scare the girl because she'd been having behavioral issues at school and he thought this would straighten her out.Barrett was arrested for child endangering and inducing panic. A new campaign is bringing attention to an issue that hasn't been front and center since the pandemic started – missing children.“There has been a lot of awareness, a lot of things have changed, but regarding her case, unfortunately there's nothing,” said Jessica Nu?ez about her missing 15-year-old daughter, Alicia Navarro.Navarro, who has autism, was 14 when she vanished in the middle of the night last September from her home in Glendale, Arizona.Alicia played online games and her mother thinks she was lured away by someone she met online. They had even discussed the dangers in therapy.“And then she wrote me a letter where she sweared to me she was coming back, so that’s what has me very worried, because I know her intention was for her to come back and that’s why I won’t stop looking,” said Nu?ez. “I won’t stop looking until I get answers because it’s been so long.”In a new effort to bring attention to missing children like Alicia Navarro, their pictures will be featured on some gas station pump video screens. Alicia's picture will be up in Arizona.The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is coordinating the effort featuring various different missing children's pictures in the states they disappeared from.Her mother wants people to know she looks young for her age and has a noticeable scar on her right knuckles.“People tend to forget so my goal is to continue sharing her story and having her image out there,” said Nu?ez.There's also a Facebook page, called "Finding Alicia," where you can share her picture. 1557

A new survey finds 20 percent of grandparents hate their grandchild's name.Online British parenting websites Mumsnet and Gransnet surveyed 2,000 parents and grandparents to learn just how closely grandparents are involved in the naming of a baby.Thirty-eight percent of parents responded saying it is none of the grandparents' business when it comes to choosing babies’ names. Just 31 percent of grandparents agree with that.Fifteen percent of parents say they have a parent or in-law who hates their baby’s name.The disagreement over a baby's name can have long-lasting effects. Six percent of parents say they have fallen out with their parents or in-laws because of the name they gave their son or daughter."Choosing a baby name is fraught enough for parents when you’re only taking into account your own views," said Mumsnet Founder Justine Roberts. A study released earlier this year conducted by university researchers from both the UK and US indicated that climate change is causing more extreme rainfall events from hurricanes, specifically among Caribbean islands.The study was authored by researchers from Bristol University in the UK and MIT in the US.The researchers said that the focus on the study was on extreme rainfall from hurricanes, like Hurricane Dorian which, stalled over the Bahamas last year.“Overall, the results suggest that the Eastern Caribbean region in particular (Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic) is likely to benefit from a reduction in extreme hurricane precipitation events resulting from increased efforts to stabilize global warming,” the study reads, pointing to the Paris Climate Accord as a benchmark for minimizing the impact of extreme rainfall events from hurricanes.The research found that events like Hurricane Maria, which struck Puerto Rico in 2017, would happen twice as frequently if sea surface temperatures increase by 2 Celsius instead of 1.5 Celsius, which is the goal of the Paris Climate Accord.In the case of Hurricane Dorian, an event like that could strike the Bahamas four to five times more frequently if sea surface temperatures increase by 2 Celsius instead of 1.5 degrees. A seemingly small difference could be what saves thousands of lives and billions of dollars in damage.One of the study’s authors told CBS News there is particular concern that the impact of extreme rainfall events could occur over poorer island nations in the Caribbean."The findings are alarming and illustrate the urgent need to tackle global warming to reduce the likelihood of extreme rainfall events and their catastrophic consequences, particularly for poorer countries which take many years to recover," Emily Vosper, a researcher at the University of Bristol, told CBS News.The full study is available here. 1912

A university official said that Jerry Falwell Jr. has resigned as president of Liberty University Monday, according to media reports. But Falwell told a TV station in Virginia that he has not agreed to resign, and reports of his resignation are "completely false."Falwell was already on a leave of absence from the evangelical Lynchburg, Va school his father founded following a series of personal issues.Over the weekend, Falwell issued a lengthy statement disclosing the “emotional toll” an affair his wife had with a man was having on him. He says the man, identified by media reports as a former pool attendant and later a business partner of Falwell and his wife, threatened to reveal the relationship “to deliberately embarrass my wife, family, and Liberty University unless we agreed to pay him substantial monies.”In his statement, Falwell said he and his wife met the man she had an affair with during a vacation over eight years ago. The man was working at the hotel where the Falwells stayed, the statement said.“Shortly thereafter, Becki had an inappropriate personal relationship with this person, something in which I was not involved – it was nonetheless very upsetting to learn about,” Falwell said in the statement.
