(CNN) -- Two suspects escaped from a Northern California jail early Sunday, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said.Santos Samuel Fonseca, 21, and Jonathan Salazar, 20, were being held in the Monterey County Adult Detention Facility awaiting trial on unrelated murder charges, the sheriff's office in a message on Facebook. The two face other felonies, authorities said.The sheriff's office didn't say how the men escaped, but they said the means of escape is under investigation.The pair had been in custody since 2018. Deputies say they should be considered dangerous.The sheriff's office is asking the public to contact them at (831) 755-3722, 24 hours a day with any information on the two suspects. (KGTV) -- A 22-year-old woman was arrested after Customs and Border Protection officers searching her car discovered nearly 10 pounds of fentanyl pills hidden in various household items, a bag of Corn Nuts, and a fire extinguisher.The discovery and arrest happened at around 7 p.m. on Aug. 22, at the Calexico West Port of Entry, CBP officials said.Officials said the woman driving an Acura TSX was entering the border crossing when she was stopped by officers and questioned.According to officials, an officer “noticed inconsistencies in her story and referred her and the vehicle for a more intensive examination.”With the help from a K9 team, officers were alerted to something suspicious in the car’s trunk. Officers then found 26 packages of fentanyl hidden in items such as a bar of soap, hair cream, lotion, milk containers, a bag of Corn Nuts, and a fire extinguisher.The pills, with a street value of about 1,500, and the car were seized by officers.The woman, a U.S. citizen, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security, officials said. 1063

Gavin Newsom has reversed parole for Charles Mason follow Leslie Van Houten, the fourth time a governor has stopped her release from prison.Newsom said Friday that Van Houten still poses a danger if released from prison.Van Houten is serving a life sentence for her part in helping Manson and others kill Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969. Van Houten was 19 years old at the time of the murders.Newsom has stopped her release once before, while former Governor Jerry Brown blocked it twice.Van Houten's attorney plans to appeal Newsom's decision.The Associated Press contributed to this report. 654
