VANCOUVER – A Canadian choir performed a COVID-19 parody of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and it may be just what you need to get through the holidays. The parody posted online is called “I Will Social Distance From You” and it was performed by the Virtual Pop Choir, operated by The Chorus Studio in Vancouver. The choir made several lyrical edits throughout the song to better apply to the turbulent times we’re living in this holiday season.Along with asking people to keep their distance, the choir has a few other things on their wish list this Christmas, like a mask that doesn’t fog up glasses and fashionable PPE.They also jokingly refer to Santa Claus as a super-spreader and tell him to “get the f*** out of my face” multiple times. The choir also touches on the popular opinion that 2020 has been bad as a whole.“All of 2020 has been a steaming dump. We’re out of toilet paper, can’t even wipe our butts. And everyone is wondering, is a vaccine really coming? Murder hornets, Q’anon, wildfires, anti-maskers,” the choir sang.At the end of the song, the singers say all they really want is to see their choir and safely sing in harmony.“Even though we’re still apart, I hold you fiercely in my heart. Together, we’ll pull through! I will social distance, from you!”According to their website, the Virtual Pop Choir was created in response to the pandemic. The group is made up of more than 70 singers who are also teachers, lawyers, students, actors, business owners, contractors, nurses and firefighters. They sing online to keep their community connected and safe. 1600

Tropical Storm Isaias formed in the Atlantic on Wednesday night, and it could bring heavy rain and strong winds to Florida. The National Hurricane Center said it is forecasted to become a hurricane Friday or Friday evening. On Thursday, the National Hurricane Center issued tropical storm watches for parts of Florida ahead of the storm. The National Hurricane Center said on Wednesday that the storm could impact Florida by the end of the week and over the weekend. On Thursday afternoon, NHC said it was too soon to determine the location or magnitude of those impacts."Here's the problem, all of our models have shifted east overnight. Except the Euro, which has now shifted the storm back into the Gulf of Mexico," Gree Dee said Thursday morning. "I cannot underscore this enough, this storm track is not set in stone right now."Gov. Ron DeSantis said on Wednesday that he's "closely" monitoring the system. He recommends Floridians be prepared now with at least seven days of disaster supplies ready.Isaias continues to produce life-threatening flash flooding and gusty winds over Puerto Rico. On the forecast track, the center of the storm will move over Hispaniola on Thursday and near the southeastern Bahamas by Thursday night or early Friday.Isaias is forecast to be near the Central Bahamas Friday night and approach the Northwest Bahamas or southern Florida Friday night and Saturday. This story originally reported by Emily McCain on abcactionnews.com 1470

Upwards of 70 percent of Americans plan to spend this Thanksgiving much differently than they did last year. Most will not be gathering for the holiday and a growing number are opting out of cooking a big turkey dinner this year. Instead, many will be ordering a to-go Thanksgiving meals from one of their local restaurants. That boost is helping restaurants stay busy, much busier than they have been for months.“It feels awesome to come in and do what we do,” said Richard Poggi, a chef and managing partner at the Delaney House restaurant and event venue in Massachusetts.Poggi has spent the past week prepping turkeys after seeing a surge of to-go Thanksgiving meal orders from the restaurant and Delaney’s local markets.“Our country as a whole really, really want to do the right thing and get through this,” said Poggi. “I think people are heeding the warnings and I think people understand what’s going on."Thanks to many people not gathering for the holiday and deciding to order out a Thanksgiving meal for themselves or their immediate family, Delaney’s is on pace to more than double the amount of to-go Thanksgiving dinners it sold last year.On average, it’s getting at least 200 new Thanksgiving to-go orders a day.“We are one of those restaurants that if you came here before the pandemic, you had to wait an hour or hour and a half to get in,” said Delaney’s Owner Peter Rosskothen.Rosskothen added the to-go Thanksgiving order boost comes after the restaurant has dealt with a 75 percent drop in business.“It has been hard to find money for payroll. It is hard to dig into your own reserve when you don’t want to, but you have to, to kind of climb through this,” said Rosskothen. That burden is being relieved for a few weeks now. More so, the boost of sales with to-go Thanksgiving meals is also giving his team glimmers of hope that they and other restaurants around the country can get through these difficult times.“It is keeping us hanging on and that is what we are doing, we’re hanging on,” said one Delaney’s worker.“I am hopeful, and they are hopeful,” said Rosskothen. “They see something like Thanksgiving happen and it’s a little lift.”It is a much-needed lift and reminder of what better days look like, thanks to the sacrifice many are making by not gathering this holiday. 2309
