SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The city updated the Sherman Heights community and surrounding neighborhoods Wednesday evening, about the transitional homeless storage facility that's set to open.  The facility is scheduled to open at the corner of the Commerical and 20th Streets on June 13.  It's been a controversial project from the beginning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Summer is almost here, meaning a slew of wild, new entertainment at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.Summer Safari returns to the Safari Park from May 25 to Sept. 1, bringing live music, arts and crafts, pop-up entertainment, up-close animal experiences, and more fun activities for families to enjoy.For the first time, the park will also host "family nights" on days the park is open until 8 p.m. On these nights, Monday and Tuesday from June 10 to July 30, special entertainment is planned, including bubble shows and evening cheetah runs.While Summer Safari is the big draw, guests will also be able to check out the park's new Walkabout Australia exhibit. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce announced a new relief fund for Black owned business meant to keep them afloat during the pandemic.They held a press conference Sunday afternoon at Waterfront Park announcing the Black Business Relief Grant Fund.Lance Growth, member of the chamber and CEO of Growth 1031, organized the press conference and says this is going to fill the gap where the government's Paycheck Protection Program fell short, "for the COVID crisis yes this is a light at the end of the tunnel."Growth says about 95% of black owned businesses did not get federal money."I don’t want to say insulting but disheartening where you watch this crisis unfold then you see your government say, 'Hey we know how bad this is we are going to provide you help,' but then you read about the businesses that [didn't get] PPP, and it just folds into the social unrest," he said.He said the grants and microloans will pay for anything from rent to supplies to payroll.Growth said they weren't going to make the application nearly as time consuming and invasive as the PPP, "we’re just going to try and get you this money as fast as possible because everyone is hurting from this pandemic."Applications open Wednesday, June 17, and priority will be given to small disadvantaged businesses in low income neighborhoods.Specific criteria for the grants will be defined Wednesday, according to the chamber.They are expecting a very high demand, compared to the amount they can give out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Food and Drug Administration is responding Friday to a Team 10 investigation launched after San Diego women complained about Monat Global hair care.Dana Sohovich talked exclusively with 10News, saying the company’s hair products caused severe hair loss and bald spots. Sohovich has filed a class action lawsuit against the company, alleging it falsely promised her “longer, fuller, stronger” hair. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The County has announced 61 sites where you can easily drop off your mail ballot ahead of the March 3 primary. According to County News Center, those who wait to drop off their ballot past Tuesday, February 25 may want to drop it off at one of the county sites before Election Day. The drop-off sites will be open during each location’s business hours from Monday, February 24 through Election Day Tuesday, March 3. “More than 1.3 million San Diego County voters have chosen the convenience of mail ballots and that number continues to rise,” said Registrar Michael Vu. “The early drop-off sites provide a great service for voters. They help with the timely return of mail ballots and decrease the high volume of voters dropping off mail ballots at polling places on Election Day.”The sites are located at 61 libraries throughout the county. Voters can also drop off their mail ballot or vote in person at the Registrar of Voters located at 5600 Overland Avenue. The office is open 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
