SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Encinitas family on vacation woke up to a disturbing alert last week, video of someone stealing multiple packages from their porch.Homeowner Mark Sandorf says the most peculiar thing was who the thief was."It’s different in that she looks like she’s probably someone’s grandma," said Sandorf.The family immediately filed a police report from New Mexico.10News blurred the woman's face because the San Diego Sheriff's Department has not yet said she's a wanted suspect.One of the packages had sentimental value, three custom holsters for Sandorf's son who is in law enforcement."My son is, like I said, risking his life out there every day and we try to keep him in good equipment and what not. These were custom made by a friend of mine in South Carolina," said Sandorf.Sandorf says the most frustrating thing is knowing the holsters will likely get thrown away.He hopes others in his Encinitas Ranch neighborhood will be on alert after the incident. 980

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A strong series of earthquakes struck Baja California Monday morning, but was felt throughout San Diego, according to United States Geological Survey data.The first tremor,was reported at 8:09 a.m. and was centered in San Vicente, Mexico -- about 93 miles south of San Diego, according to the USGS. The quake registered 4.4-magnitude.The jolt was followed by two more in quick succession at 8:30 a.m. and 8:31 a.m., both registering 5.2- and 5.1-magnitude respectively, USGS reported.No known injuries or damage have been reported.Various people reported feeling the quake all over Southern California, including numerous locations in San Diego, some as far north as Escondido and east in El Centro. 727

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego Police Sergeant was arrested Friday after the department was tipped off to individuals reportedly soliciting sex from minors.Police say Joseph Ruvido, 49, was arrested in Carmel Valley and charged with one felony count of soliciting sex with a minor. A search warrant was served at the 21-year veteran's residence and he was taken into custody without incident.Ruvido was assigned to the SDPD Watch Commander's Office, approving reports and and bookings. Prior to that, Ruvido was a patrol sergeant with the department's Eastern division, according to SDPD Chief David Nisleit."I assure you Sgt. Ruvido will be held accountable both criminally and administratively," Nisleit said. "We take this very, very seriously."Watch the SDPD press conference below:"It is very embarrassing to have to talk about the arrest of one of our own," Nisleit added.The chief said Ruvido has been suspended without pay as the investigation continues.On Wednesday, police received a Crime Stoppers tip through the via the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit that multiple people may be soliciting sex from minors. Police identified one of the individuals as Ruvido and opened an investigation leading to his arrest.Once Ruvido was identified, investigators conducted 24/7 surveillance with investigators from the San Diego District Attorney's Office, according to SDPD Lt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Amid Coronavirus c oncerns a Holland America cruise ship took off Saturday from the Port of San Diego on a 7-day trip to Mexico.Passengers boarding the cruise said for the most part they weren't concerned.Some added Holland America had been emailing them updates on precautions the cruise line is taking and what passengers should do to stay healthy.Holland America sent this list of precautions to 10News:Guests who have traveled from or through mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau, or had contact with a suspected or confirmed case of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) or a person who is under monitoring for coronavirus in the last 14 days prior to sailing will not be permitted to board the ship. Pre-Boarding medical evaluations, including temperature checks, for persons whom, for any reason, appear or identify as symptomatic (respiratory or fever symptoms); and For all guests, our standard pre-boarding health reporting advising of their reporting obligations for any illness or symptoms of an illness.Medical screening for Coronavirus on all guests who visit our onboard Medical Center with symptoms of any respiratory illness.Reporting to local and national health authorities of all cases of fever and respiratory illness, and any patients with suspected Coronavirus infection. Crew members from mainland China will be delayed from joining any ship until further notice. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A water culvert in Logan Heights overflowed Thursday night due to heavy rain, leaving neighbors with a mess Friday, many homes destroyed from all the water.Ruben Cortez’s home got filled with about a foot of water. Initially the water just piled up outside his sliding glass door, “the water was up to here so it looked like I was inside an aquarium”. After 20 minutes water came through the front and back doors, soon filling the entire house.Cortez and his wife are remodeling their home. One week ago they installed new flooring in their bedroom. After the flooding, the floor is completely ruined.The rest of the house has tile flooring and dirt and mud everywhere.His neighbors are also dealing with similar issues. Many parked their cars on the street and during the flooding the water filled up to the steering wheel.Most people in the neighborhood, along with Cortez himself, don’t have flooding insurance. He tells 10News, “its like getting snow insurance you don’t think anything like that is going to happen and this flood wasn’t really a typical flood, it was part of the drain that came out and flooded. You don’t think of those things”. Cortez wasn’t only worried about his own home, he’s also the pastor at the church next door. While the church was okay, the children’s classroom had water damage. The water also filled between a foot to two feet in the rooms.Left with a laundry list of things to fix, remodel and clean, Cortez tells 10News, “just count your blessings and the bad things as they come in, just face them one at a time." 1581
