SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — PETA is taking aim at SeaWorld once again, this time hoping to put a stop to the parks' dolphin shows.Officials held a press conference Wednesday to call out the park for what they called "dangerous," "circus-style" dolphins shows. The group argues trainers use dolphins "as surfboards" and have caused "open wounds and extensive scarring" on the animals."SeaWorld ceded to public pressure and said that it would phase out its circus-style orca shows, but dozens of other dolphins are still packed into shallow tanks, forcibly bred, and used as surfboards and launch pads in its shows," Heather Rally, a PETA Foundation veterinarian, said. "PETA is calling on SeaWorld to end these demeaning tricks and stop standing on dolphins' backs and faces."Rally, "Blackfish" director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, and behavioral biologist Dr. Toni Frohoff presented a report Wednesday in regards to their observations at the parks. The three argued that the shows, which are performed at all three of SeaWorld's parks, risk damage to dolphins' lower jaws. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Puerto Ricans are living in fear after hundreds of earthquakes rocked the region, according to a San Diegan with family there.Tommy Rosas last lived on the island when he was 14. Though he moved to the mainland, Puerto Rico never left him."It hurts," he said sadly, "every minute of the day, I walk, breathe, sweat, cry Puerto Rico."He's been hurting more for his home since 2017, when Hurricane Maria hit. "My family moved, with the exception of a couple cousins who live in Cabo Rojo." They started the repairs little by little, then the earthquakes hit," saying in frustration, "whats next? What did Puerto Ricans do to deserve this?"The shaking started December 28th, the biggest quake struck January 7th, registering a magnitude 6.4."There's thousands of people living on the streets, because of their homes being destroyed or they're afraid of their home collapsing on top of them." Rosas said friends described the desperate living conditions through social media.Rosas gave a friend a flash light as a gift before he went to Puerto Rico a few months back. He said it was a joke, but now that friend now using it regularly, "he's in Isla Verde, so they lost power there, and it's periodically, it comes and goes. The food supply, water," he said was dwindling.He said a group caravaned from the north side of the island bringing supplies like diapers, formula and juice to those affected by the earthquakes.The positivity keeps Rosas going, "we don't give up, we won't lay down and say okay."He raised ,000 for supplies for the island and is planning another fundraiser. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Nurses say they're approaching a breaking point amid the coronavirus pandemic.A San Diego registered nurse spoke to 10News, but asked we don't identify her out of fear she would lose her job, to explain what she and other healthcare workers on the front lines are experiencing.She said Thursday night she saw a post on a nursing social media page stating nurses were encouraged not to wear N95 masks in the Intensive Care Unit. Also circulating on social media is a Change.org petition titled, "US Physicians/Healthcare Workers For Personal Protective Equipment in COVID-19 Pandemic." The petition garnered more than 800,000 signatures by Friday afternoon.Part of the argument is the CDC downgraded the mode of transmission from aerosol to droplets. That means a surgical mask is allowed over the more sturdy N95 mask."Things that are frightening us the most is 1. Nurses are not allowed to bring their own N95 masks from home, we are not allowed to enter the hospital with them. 2. Management has been asking nurses not to wear their masks in hallways, or at the nursing station... and otherwise nurses have been written up with HR if they do not remove the masks... Masks having been removed from floors and only held by management," the unnamed nurse said, adding some hospitals nurses are only allowed one per shift.That is what's causing some nurses to panic.
