The unit is responsible for monitoring the countries' economic and financial situations and providing advices for the regional foreign currency reserve pool, known as Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralization (CMIM) that formally came into effect on March 24, 2010.The ASEAN+3 meeting also announced the setting up of a regional credit guarantee and investment fund with an initial grant of 700 million U.S. dollars, in an effort to promote the issuance of bond in domestic currencies within the region, Xie said.The finance ministers also agreed to create a working group to discuss future strategic fields for regional financial cooperation.

CANBERRA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd met with visiting General Guo Boxiong, vice-chairman of China 's Central Military Commission, later on Thursday.In the meeting, Rudd praised China's reforms and opening up which massively upheaved its economy and the society, and said the achievements are unparalleled in the world.Rudd said the Australian government places importance in Sino- Australian relations. In recent years, there has been a very good political climate given the strengthened economic cooperation and closer exchanges between the peoples. He said today more and more people from China travel to and study in Australia which effectively promoted the understanding and friendship between the peoples.Rudd said Australia hopes to further strengthen dialogue and exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and trust to establish a " sworn friend" (zheng you) relations with China. He also hopes to see the defense and military relations between the two countries will further develop, adding that Australia is very optimistic in future Australia-China relations.Guo said although China and Australia are far apart, the two peoples have friendly relations. In recent years, such bilateral relations were maintained in a sound trend in general as there have been frequent diplomatic visits, and economic and trade cooperation continue to expand. ISLAMABAD, March 30 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese embassy official Tuesday called on an official of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to donate 30,000 U.S. dollars on behalf of the China Red Cross Society (CRCS) to assist the residents affected by the landslide in northern Pakistan early this year.Muhammad Ilyas Khan, PRCS secretary general, asked Yao Jing, counselor of the Chinese embassy to Pakistan, to convey his appreciation to the CRCS for its generous donation to Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan due to the landslide in January, 2010.He said that Chinese friends always extend assistance to Pakistan in difficult times and Pakistan is proud of its friendship with China.At present, the local government and PRCS are working hard to provide relief to the villages. The government is also trying to control the damage and tackle with the challenge caused by the lake in the area.On January 4, a serious landslide occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan and formed a huge barrier lake. The slide blocked over 20,000 local residents in Upper Hunza from outside. The Pakistani government is conducting the rescue and relief work . BEIJING, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China's banking regulator said on Sunday that banks should not extend loans to home buyers who intend to use the money for speculative purposes.Lenders should increase their awareness about financial risks and raise the down payment ratio "by a large margin", said the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) in a statement.Down payment ratio of a second or more houses should be no less than 40 percent and the interest rates should be strictly in line with risks, according to the statement.The action is the latest in a campaign by the central government to dampen China's overheated property market.
