(KGTV) - Monique Ramsey has struggled with weight most of her life."I'm 5'1, and so weight loss has always been something that's a struggle, and it's definitely a heredity component."Ramsey said diet and exercise were never enough."I think I've tried just about everything, and you know, it's hard to sort of feel like you're starving yourself through crazy diets and things like that," said Ramsey.RELATED: The DNA diet creates personalized diet plan for users; here’s how it worksIn July of 2017, she decided to try something new."This is a tool that is such a game-changer," said Ramsey.That tool is the Obalon Balloon System. Mark Brister invented the device at the Obalon Therapeutics manufacturing center in Carlsbad."There weren't a lot of technologies out there to help people who were just overweight. Most people had to wait until they were morbidly obese in order to be eligible for treatment so we decided to invent a product that would fit the middle ground," said Brister, who is the Chief Technology Officer at Obalon Therapeutics.Obalon is the only FDA approved swallowable gas-filled balloon for people roughly 30 to 100 pounds overweight. The doctor uses a computerized navigation system to track the balloon as it travels into the stomach. Once it's in the stomach, the balloon is filled with gas. The patient will get three balloons over six to eight weeks."This is sort of like being able to have stomach stapling without having surgery," said Ramsey.Side effects after the first balloon is inserted can include nausea and cramping. The brazen theft happened Saturday at about 3:45 p.m. on Avenue N near Canarsie Road in Canarsie, where the vehicle was parked.Forbes, who lives in a basement apartment on Avenue N, was overwhelmed that day dealing with flooding in her unit due to afternoon showers.“I was just going back and forth to the car bringing my stuff out, it was raining and just so much was happening,” she told PIX11.Her dog, Taffy, was placed in the unlocked car during the shuffle.When Forbes stepped back into her home to grab a few more things, an unknown woman snatched Taffy, Forbes said.In surveillance footage obtained by Forbes taken from across the street, a woman is seen opening the passenger car door of Forbes' dark-colored car, grabbing the dog and nonchalantly walking away with her by the leash.“She’s not a barking dog. (KGTV) — U.S. history from the Mayflower through the American Revolution is on display in Carlsbad.The Green Dragon Tavern and Museum, off Interstate 5 at Palomar Airport Road, offers a full-service restaurant and a chance to look at original documents from the country's Colonial Period."Not a lot of families have the money or time or resources to be able to travel back east and experience these things first hand," says Green Dragon General Manager John Lek. "A lot of our guests say they feel like they're in Boston or New England without having to leave San Diego."The museum's artifacts are all part of a private collection owned by a local man, who asked not to be identified. He wanted to share his collection with the rest of San Diego, and put them on display at the restaurant.Among the items are documents signed by 14 of America's founding fathers. That gives visitors a chance to see the signatures of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, John Hancock and more.Lek says just seeing these items can give people a deeper link to their past."There is something authentic and something that really settles in when you have a direct connection with our forefathers," says Lek.The museum has been open for five years. Right now, everything fits within a single room. But there are plans for expansion.Lek says the museum will open a second room with more interactive and hands-on technology, as well as more artifacts from America's past.Admission to the museum is free, and it's open anytime the restaurant is open.
