SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Wreath-laying ceremonies were held at cemeteries around the county Saturday to honor the military veterans buried there.The ceremonies are part of the larger Wreaths Across America project.More than 1,000 cemeteries across the country participated, including Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. According to Wreaths Across America, the events are an effort to preserve the memory of military veterans and teach children about the sacrifices they make and have made."Each and every wreath is a gift from an appreciative person or family who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy," said Wreaths Across America Executive Director Karen Worcester. "We are so humbled that the community of San Diego is participating in our mission to remember, honor and teach."Starting at 9 a.m. at each cemetery, active-duty military members, military veterans, military families and local volunteers laid balsam fir wreaths on graves at Fort Rosecrans and Miramar National Cemeteries, Greenwood Memorial Park, Valley Center Cemetery and Oak Hill Cemetery. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 55-year-old homeless man who was attacked with a skateboard while sleeping in North Park has died, San Diego Police said.Arthur Angulo was sleeping in alley in the 2800 block of El Cajon Boulevard  at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday when a man bashed him repeatedly with a skateboard, according to police.  Angulo suffered ``visible signs of major trauma to his upper body,'' San Diego police homicide Lt. Todd Griffin said.``The attack was unprovoked," officer Tony Martinez said over the weekend.RELATED: Sleeping homeless man attacked in North ParkAngulo was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where medical staff determined he would not survive and placed him on life support, Griffin said.He was removed from life support Thursday "and died in the hospital as the result of his injuries,'" Griffin said.Police said the attacker is white, about six feet tall, and between 19 and 26 years old. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver apparently lost control of his SUV and crash landed on the roof of a University City home early Tuesday morning.The crash happened at around 1:15 a.m. in the 3000 block of Pennant Way, according to San Diego police.Bill Crane told ABC 10News that after he heard a loud crash, he came out of his home and saw the male driver in his yard and the Jeep Cherokee Laredo on top of his next-door neighbor’s house."I was asleep at the time and I heard this crash, and I came out and I looked around and saw a guy kind of wandering near behind me, by what's left of the tree, and he was just kind of stumbling and I couldn't figure out what the hell that was. Because you usually don't think of a car being on someone's roof. So, when I finally figured that out, I went in to get my phone, and came back out and called 911, and he was gone,” Crane said.Crane called 911 to report the crash, and he then called the woman who lives in the house. However, Crane said the woman initially didn’t believe her.Crane added, "I called her twice and she said, 'What, a car on my roof? I'm not going out there, I can't believe that.’ It is pretty unbelievable.”ABC 10News learned the woman was asleep at the time and never heard the crash. She believes the SUV was coming down Pennant Way, somehow veered on a resident’s front lawn and launched onto her garage.A towing service used a crane to remove the Jeep from the roof of the home’s garage.There is no word on how much damage the home sustained, but inspectors said the house was structurally sound despite the wreck.No one was hurt in the crash.As of late Tuesday morning, police have not tracked down the SUV's driver. 1692
