THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KGTV) — National Park Service biologists say they're seeing a boom in mountain lion births this summer in the Santa Monica Mountains and Simi Hills areas.Between May and August, researchers have seen 13 total kittens born to five mountain lion mothers. This is the first time this many mountain lion dens have been found in such a short time period during the 18-year study, according to the National Park Service. A total of 21 litters of kittens have been marked at the den site. Previously, the most dens found in one year for the study was four in 2015."This level of reproduction is a great thing to see, especially since half of our mountains burned almost two years ago during the Woolsey Fire," said Jeff Sikich, a wildlife biologist who has been studying the mountain lion population at Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. "It will be interesting to see how these kittens use the landscape in the coming years and navigate the many challenges, both natural and human-caused, they will face as they grow older and disperse."Since 2002, NPS has been studying mountain lions around the Santa Monica Mountains to determine how they survive in a fragmented and urbanized environment.To track the mountain lions, researchers wait until the mother leaves to hunt or feed. While researchers are tracking her movements, other researchers will approach the den to catalog the kittens and place a unique tag on the ear of each animal. This data hack is huge -- 1.4 billion passwords are now floating around on the dark web. In December, a massive data leak was discovered, and many computer gurus are capable of accessing the information, said cybersecurity expert Dan Petro. "Certainly like one of the biggest password leaks ever," said Petro.Hackers combined smaller lists with new hacked data into one massive database."If you're like almost everybody else, you probably just have one password or maybe a small set of passwords you use for basically everything. So having these leaked online is threatening not just to your one account but perhaps all the other ones," Petro said.Rob Hanna was one of the many internet users whose password was exposed. Within seconds of accessing the database, someone could easily find his hacked password and email."I’m really quite stunned about that. That's scary. And I've been pretty careful about trying to really manage that for a lot of years," said Hanna.Even if your bank account password is different, Petro said with access to your email account, hackers can get into your bank using the "forgot password" feature. It often emails you a link that lets you or a hacker set up a new password.Security experts recommend frequently changing passwords, using hard-to-guess passwords. For those who have a tough time remembering passwords, something called 2-factor authentication can help.Most email services let you turn it on in your settings. Whenever someone tries to sign into your account from a new computer or phone, not only do they need your password but a secret code texted from your email company to your phone. You must enter both."That way if your password gets leaked in a large online database such as this one attacker still won't be able to log in," said Petro.Hanna, who has kept a spreadsheet of his emails and passwords for different sites, now has a task ahead of him: figure out which of the several dozen logins he uses must be changed so no one does any damage using his hacked information."So if that kind of got out and someone really wanted to kind of take a run at me that could give them a lot control," Hanna said. 2199

There is arguably no industry in the US that has been harder hit by the coronavirus pandemic than restaurants. A combination of restrictions placed on restaurants and public health experts advising the public to avoid restaurants has resulted in a decline for many eateries.The National Restaurant Association said it expects that 10,000 restaurants will close in the next three months, based on a survey of its members.The National Restaurant Association is hoping to get some additional relief from Washington. This pandemic holiday season, the last thing you need is too have your power disconnected.But Lisa Shook , who manages a home inspection company, recently got a call from someone claiming to be with their electric company."He said he was going to be in our driveway to cut off our services," she said.Shook handed the phone to owner Rob Wells, who was told he was behind on his bill, and would be cut off if he didn't pay immediately."He said we needed to pay 7 or they would disconnect the electric," Wells said, saying the man demanded a debit or credit card number.It sounded legit, as the caller knew the name of his business, and more.So this expert who normally inspects houses inspected his records, and realized he was not behind on his bill after all.But it may have been too late: Someone emptied his debit card a short time later."Everything got hacked, my credit card, everything," he said.It was all a scam. He is now working with his bank to repair the fraud charges.Easy to believe the caller's claimsLast year, one church almost lost ,000.Donald Kincaid is an Episcopal church groundskeeeper. He was shocked when he received a call from the power company claiming the church had fallen behind on its electric bill."The caller said that the gas and electric would be cut off in about a half an hour because the bill hadn't been paid," he said.The caller couldn't have been more clear.
