SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody after his 53-year-old mother was found dead Monday evening in the College West neighborhood. Officers were called to the 4800 block of Collwood Boulevard around 4:40 p.m. Monday night after receiving reports of a deceased person inside a home. According to San Diego Police, family members tried to contact the 53-year-old woman who lived inside, but had not been able to contact her for several days.When officers entered the home, they found the woman dead.“Information provided by family members led to the 25 year-old son being located at an area hospital where he was receiving treatment for injuries he sustained to his hands,” police said.The man has been taken into custody and will be transported to headquarters for processing as a possible suspect, police said. 846

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - With one of the largest holidays of the year just a day away, getting around and conducting business before and on the holiday can be tricky to navigate with what is closed and open.The North County Transit District will have a normal service schedule for Christmas Eve. However, the Amtrak R2R partnership with NCTD -- which allows Coaster customers to travel on Amtrak trains in the San Diego area -- will be blacked out through Monday. During this time, all Amtrak Pacific Surfliner customers will be required to show a valid Amtrak fare and no COASTER passes will be accepted.NCTD schedules will be reduced to a Sunday service schedule on Christmas.The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System will run a similar schedule, with normal weekday hours Christmas Eve on all Trolley lines and MTS local, urban, Express, Rapid and Rapid Express bus routes.Christmas is more complicated. All Trolley lines except the Silver Line will operate on a half-hour frequency on Christmas Day. Rapid, urban, and local bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule.No service will be provided on Rapid Express routes 280 or 290, Rapid routes 204, 237 and Express routes 50, 60, 110, 150, Sorrento Valley Coaster Connection and most express bus routes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of friends from Del Norte High School in 4S Ranch have turned their summer boredom into a way to help others.Andrew Zhang, Jerry Wu, Nick Genovese and Rishi Peddakama are 3D printing face shields and donating them to local hospitals."I guess we were all just kind of feeling like restless and we needed to do something during this like difficult time," Zhang says on why he and his friends decided to start making PPE from scratch.The boys have turned their summertime hobby into a new non-profit, Shield Our Health Heroes. Their website has a place for donations, and all of the money goes towards materials for more face shields.So far, they've raised enough money to donate 750 face shields to 10 local hospitals."We've been told multiple times that our shields fit better and are better quality than a lot of the shields that they're getting," says Genovese."I really think we are making an impact in our community," adds WU. "Our products are actually really helping these health care workers who need these."The four friends each brought their unique talents to the group effort. Andrew came up with the idea and has spearheaded the project. Rishi built the website and set up the donation PayPal account. Jerry does all of the social media and advertising. Nick contacts the hotels and sets up the deliveries."We try to make it hassle free for them," says Peddakama."We just really want to give back during this time," says Zhang. It offers an expansive pool, bar area, community room, open-air gym, and a lounge on the 23rd floor, with views to the coast. "The goal was to have multiple spaces, again, that would be like staying at a four or five star resort," said Jerry Brand, executive director of developer Greystar. The building will be among the most expensive in San Diego County.Studios start at ,750 a month, while two-bedroom units start at ,300. The penthouse is advertised for ,000 per month. It also includes 30 affordable units. Analysts say luxury buildings like Palisade can play a role in easing all of the region's housing crunch. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A field trip to one of San Diego County’s beaches is making waves on social media after underprivileged children were taken to the beach in a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department bus. Pictures posted on social media show the kids being taken to Del Mar Beach in the bus Thursday. One parent told 10News she was upset when she found out how her child was taken to the beach.“It just doesn’t look right. It just puts us in an awkward point of view,” said Kimberly Steele. "I feel like they would not transport children from La Jolla on a bus like that."According to STAR/PAL, the nonprofit organization that put on the field trip, the trips are meant to foster a relationship between the community and law enforcement. The group is made up of civilian and law enforcement personnel including baseball, soccer, and surf programs. “The message has never been ‘you’re gonna be on a bus that’s used for anything negative,’” said Claire Leveau, Executive Director of the organization.
