SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Americans are being warned to not eat any romaine lettuce after concerns over a new E-Coli outbreak. At least 32 people in 11 states have gotten sick. One of San Diego’s largest produce suppliers is jumping into action. Speciality Produce supplies hundreds of restaurants and caterers around the county with fresh produce. Owner Bob Harrington says he had to notify each customer about the CDC warning. Harrington says employees went through a list, of about 9 pages, and called customers warning them to throw out all of their romaine. “I think there’s a really good system in place so whenever something like this does happen we can respond really quickly,” says Harrington. Employees spent almost 2 hours calling all of the customers. “I think most companies, like us, practice a couple times a year just to do a dry run to make sure we’re ready to do a recall at a moments notice and finish it within minutes.” Specialty produce has about five to seven different types of romaine in its warehouse. All of them were pulled from the main floor. Harrington says he will replace the romaine from all of his customers with a new green, free of charge. The CDC is not only urging everyone to throw away their romaine but to clean the areas where the green was stored.  1329

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego Police Sergeant was arrested Friday after the department was tipped off to individuals reportedly soliciting sex from minors.Police say Joseph Ruvido, 49, was arrested in Carmel Valley and charged with one felony count of soliciting sex with a minor. A search warrant was served at the 21-year veteran's residence and he was taken into custody without incident.Ruvido was assigned to the SDPD Watch Commander's Office, approving reports and and bookings. Prior to that, Ruvido was a patrol sergeant with the department's Eastern division, according to SDPD Chief David Nisleit."I assure you Sgt. Ruvido will be held accountable both criminally and administratively," Nisleit said. "We take this very, very seriously."Watch the SDPD press conference below:"It is very embarrassing to have to talk about the arrest of one of our own," Nisleit added.The chief said Ruvido has been suspended without pay as the investigation continues.On Wednesday, police received a Crime Stoppers tip through the via the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit that multiple people may be soliciting sex from minors. Police identified one of the individuals as Ruvido and opened an investigation leading to his arrest.Once Ruvido was identified, investigators conducted 24/7 surveillance with investigators from the San Diego District Attorney's Office, according to SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell.SDPD declined to share any further details to protect the investigation, Nisleit said."We're going to be looking at everything," Nisleit said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A suspect fleeing from officers and an innocent Camp Pendleton Marine were killed in an early-morning head-on crash following a chase on Interstate 5 in Carlsbad. The pursuit began just after midnight Tuesday when officers attempted to stop a motorist driving a dark-colored F-150 truck for a speeding and failing to signal a turn on Coast Highway turning onto Monterey Dr. When officers got to the door of the truck, the suspect took off on Carmelo Drive near Harbor Drive in Oceanside. The suspect's wife tells 10News Christian Zurita is the man who led police on the chase. Zurita was reported traveling at speeds of up to 100 mph, and sometimes driving the wrong way on the freeway, police said.About 10 minutes into the chase, the truck entered the northbound lanes in the wrong direction near the Las Flores bridge trying to evade police. NEWS HEADLINES: Preliminary hearing begins for LJCD teacher accused of sex with 17-year-old Oceanside Police Department officers did not pursue the truck because it was going the wrong way on the highway, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, according to investigators. Instead, officers tracked Zurita with the help of a San Diego County Sheriff's Office helicopter.OPD says at some point, Zurita turned off his lights. Moments later, he slammed his truck head-on into a light-colored Pontiac Grand Prix that was traveling in the northbound lanes.Officers approached the truck, breaking out the windows, and deploying a K9. A male passenger in the F-150 was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. Investigators said the victim in the Pontiac, a 19-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity hasn't been released at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A well-known San Diego restaurant plans to close for good this July. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant will close its Mission Valley restaurant on July 16, 2019, according to paperwork filed by the company. Although no reason was given for the closure, 79 employees are expected to lose their jobs. The layoff notice was filed by the company on June 5 and says, in part, that the company will “continue the employment of all employees through the sixtieth day after the date of this notice, and all employees will be paid your regular wages and benefits through that date.”The brewery and restaurant first opened in 1988 in Palo Alto before expanding in 1999. Gordon Biersch currently operates 35 restaurants in the U.S., though it’s unclear if any other locations plan to close. 808
